Kootenai Brown
The 2013 Alaska State Championship is in the books, and two new champs were crowned: Men's Overall and Overall Winner: Coho Cowboy of the Juneau Gold Miner's Posse Women's Overall Winner: Sweet Valley Whiskey of the Alaska 49er's Coho Cowboy becomes the overall champ after a 8 year string of wins by Four Bucks. Bucks moved to Idaho last year, and wasn't here to defend the title. Sweet Valley Whiskey continues the family legacy. She's the daughter of Bearclaw Becky, and Becky has held the women's title for the previous 6 years. Bearclaw is recovering from shoulder surgery, and wasn't able to shoot this year. But next year, look out! There's gonna be a gunfight in the Women's Division. We had a lot of fun, baked in the sun, and shot some great stages. We had folks come up to visit from all over. Low Gap Kid and Dublin Doll came up from Ft Smith, AR, and Prussian Pete and Colorado Kate came up from Washington State. D Bar J Hat Company was represented from Las Vegas, and our match photographer traveled up from New Orleans. We really appreciate visitors, and it was a lot of fun to have these folks in attendance. If any of you have designs on visiting Alaska next summer, give a shout, and we'll hellp you put together an itinerary that can take in matches in Juneau, Anchorage, and Fairbanks.
