GET INVOLVED: Five things you can do

1. Be Aware: To keep local, state and federal legislators in tune with the people’s will, you need to stay informed and ready to act. To sign up for NRA alerts, go to www.nraila.org/get-involved-locally/secure/stay-informed.aspx. This way you’ll know instantly when politicians in your state and your federal representatives are pushing legislation that will harm your freedom. To remain free, a populace must stay informed. Thomas Jefferson pointed this out when he said, “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.”

2. Write/Call your Legislators: When legislation that will either infringe upon your rights or augment them is afoot, you need to act by contacting your representatives. To do so used this link: www.nraila.org/get-involved-locally/grassroots/write-your-reps.aspx. Also let other members of your gun club, your Facebook friends and so on, know what’s going on. Don’t just ask them to act, show them how.

3. Don’t-Miss Events: Email alerts will tell you where local rallies and other events will be taking place. When possible, you need to show your elected representatives you’ll vote for your freedom. Nothing keeps a politician honest like a group of freedom-loving people coming out to show they understand and will vote for their freedom.

4. Become an NRA Recruiter: It’s not difficult to become an NRA recruiter. Here’s where to get signed
up: http://recruiting.nra.org. Next, you can recruit friends, family, and more to the fight for freedom. Being a recruiter will also give you an excuse to engage others. Whether they’re gun owners who just haven’t gotten around to joining the NRA or people who don’t understand their freedom, you’ll have the tools you need to teach people about the nature and importance of their rights and to help them join the
fight.

5. Gun Safety Courses: Whenever possible, teach others gun safety and/or help find expert instruction. To find local courses, log on to: www.nrainstructors.org/searchcourse.aspx. Long on and check out local training classes; you’ll likely be surprised how many are available in your area. This will help you connect with other gun owners, help you teach people to be responsible gun owners and will help you bring others into the cause for freedom. If just a small percentage of NRA members do this much, the strength of our freedom won’t be in question and we’ll take big steps toward using our freedom to guard against the few who would do us harm.

There is another thing you can do. In almost all states there is a state rifle or pistol or 2nd Amendment Association. Here in Texas is the Texas State Rifle Association and we are large enough to have our own lobbyist in Austin, working to protect the Rights of Texas gun owners. Unfortunately not all states Associations are as large as the TSRA but they could be close and also command a better voice in each state capitol, advocating for the rights on their citizens. Search out the Association in your state and join the local fight. We must all stand together against this and any future administration against any infringement on the 2nd Amendment. TSRA has grown since the election and all State Association needs our help. Seek them out, join them and get involved.
