Please tell me what's your go to "SASS" event lever gun and if it's is slicked up or not?

today is the first time dealing with the marlin jam where the cartridge comes out to be lifted and seated but gets stuck, was one hell of a jam.... primer side of shell was elevated but seemed like the lead was still stuck into the tube.... help please... here or email me at jasonleibyusmc@icloud.com...... I have a Marlin 94 in .45 Colt made sometime in the 90's that needs work. It is still bone stock but I think it is starting to need some help to keep going. I am NOT interested in a short stroke. Who would be good to work on it? Carrier, one-piece firing pin,, trigger, springs, chamfer the chamber mouth, and anything else needed replaced or fixed. Then a good action job. I am interested in gunsmith names and contact info. What would you Marlin shooters have worked on or replaced. I am 75 so not interested in a short stroke kit anymore, it won't change the sundial timer reading for me.

Need a Marlin gunsmith!!! Have a friend in Indianapolis, who wants to drive to a gunsmith. He has a 336 in .30-30 that needs some work as it is grouping 3"-5" at a 100 yards. Takes a Mack truck to pull the trigger, hammer has a 1000 lb spring. You get the idea, in need of a good action job. Need the chamber and barrel checked also to make sure no one has worked on it and the barrel crown is good. If the Marlin jam can happen fix before happens. Maybe add a ting sight.

Howdy Cowboys and Cowgirls, I am helping a Cowgirl here in Iowa sell some of her CAS firearms locally and I am out of my league on the value of a handful of them. If they were RNV or 1873's not a big deal, I would know them, but I have never shot let alone know the value of these couple of Marlin's and the Uberti pistols. I am looking for a couple of cowboys or cowgirls to provide me with an approximate value of the described firearms below. Thanks so much in advance! All of the firearms described are used, but certainly NOT abused. These folks did a great job maintaining these firearms. They show the normal stock wear that comes with playing our game, a few bumps and bruises but no cracks or deep gouges. 1. Marlin (Top on pic Below) - 1894 Carbine in 38 special. It is not short-stroked but it does have some slicking up done to it as the action has some swirled jeweling to it. It is old enough to have clear JM stamp with a circle around it. 2. Marlin (Bottom on pic below) - 1894 Cowboy Limited in 38 special. Again this one is not short stroked, and it does not appear to have any work done to it. However the owners have used it enough that it does feel slick. You could say this one was loosened up just by shooting it. While I did not find a JM with a circle around it, there was a smaller JM stamped on it but without a circle around it. 3. Birds Head Pistols - Uberti birds head revolvers in 38 special, 3.5 inch barrels. The action are what Uberti would call the old model, so they have the 4 clicks and no transfer bars. They did not say stallion on them, but they were certainly made for smaller hands. Again no sign of work done to them, however they are smooth. Again I would say they were loosened up with just shooting them. 4. Normal Pistols - Uberti revolver in 38 special, 5.5 inch barrels. Again 4 clicks with no transfer bars. Their was no additional identification on them like stallion, or cattleman, etc. These did not feel like smaller guns, they felt similar in my hand as my NMV but lighter. Again no sign of work done to them, however they were smooth. Again I would say they were loosened up with just shooting them. Thanks so much in advance for your expertise in helping out here! Howdy, folks! I've got a question for y'all. I've only been shooting CAS for six months, and I'm wanting to get into B-Western. My main reason is that I already have the clothes for it; they're my everyday wear. What's the best rifle for B-Western that's NOT a Marlin? Fastest, most reliable, longest lasting? I'm a lefty, and every Marlin I've shot throws the hot brass right onto my right arm, which gets old fast. I was considering a Rossi M92, IF I can find one. Price is also a deciding factor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I need someone to slick up and short stoke my wife’s Marlin 357/38 rifle. Can anyone recommend someone that mightn be at Winter Range that can work on it there or I can send to them and pickup at Winter Range? Thanks Mojo Rising

Is there a new Carrier emerging for the 94 Marlin with the hard steel and helps with the jammer slammer issues? Can this be a break through? I am not too excited about welding and bending and putting parts back into my cowboy gun. I see the magic at the range and I have shared some verbal disappointment when a stove pipe is peaking at me. Or an empty is in the way of your clean match. I will be in line to get one if the new carrier is happening.

Marlin 1894CB, 44-40, Hornady 240gr SWC-HP #11118 and a load of Reloder 7. Velocity about 1,425fps. High Pressure, High Velocity not for the Henry, Winchester 66' and 73' weak action style rifles. Deer hit at about 60-75 yards. Hit the top of the shoulder broadside, turned 90deg, road down the spine and stopped in the hind quarters. Processor gave up looking for the bullet until he was cutting up the hind quarters where he found it. Buck dropped straight down, never took a step.

Got the jam on my 45 marlin. Aside from purchasing a new carrier, what's the latest suggestions on this problem? Does anyone make an improved carrier? Thanks!

I have an 1894 JM Marlin in .357 Magnum that is from 1983 and an 1894CS JM Marlin that is in .357 Magnum/.38 Special that is from 1990. Neither of my Marlin's are mine. My wife, Ava Crowder, claimed the 1990 and my daughter, Macey Magoo, claimed the 1983. I changed the springs in both of them using the Palo Verde spring kits that I got from the Smith Shop and did some minor slicking followers the instructions from Marauder's website. Both of them did really well after that. The 1983 recently developed the "feed two Marlin jam." It has a notch on the bottom of the carrier that everything I have read says is characteristic of this problem. As some of you might know, new carriers for the rifles are not easy to find. Numrich had a "Carrier Assembly, Old Style," Part # 459610 for $49.35. I ordered it. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I had read up on fixes and preventative measures for this problem. I don't know if any of y'all have ever experienced having your female family members weapons break and them looking at you like, "XXX?," but I would prefer to avoid any further episodes of this sort. I called and spoke to Widdowmaker Hill and he and I had a very good, nice, and informative discussion. I also got a hold of Gunner Gatlin and corresponded with him about fixing my problematic carrier. He told me how to take care of that. Both of those pards were very helpful. I would very much like to meet them both in person. When I was talking to Widder he told to make sure that I took out the plunger and spring before I sent the part to Gunner and then replace the washer that retains the plunger with an "E" clip. I told him that this carrier did not have a plunger that it had a lever on the side. The part arrived from Numrich yesterday. When I opened the package, the lever on the left side of the carrier was broken. I tried to call Numrich, but they were closed. I called them this morning and the lady told me that they did not have anymore .357 carriers and that I had gotten the last one in inventory. She told me that I could send it back for a refund. I told her that I would look at it and see if I could just switch the lever over to the new carrier. You cannot order just the lever by itself. This afternoon I tried to switch the carriers and put the lever from the old,carrier into the new carrier. . Neither the carrier nor the lever on the side of the carrier is the same. The carrier doesn't even have the same profile. So, it didn't work. ] So, it appears that there are are least two different carriers with the lever on the left side that are different from each other. My 1990 rifle has a carrier with a plunger. Folks talk about the carrier that has the plunger and that you should put an "E" clip in place of the washer. Well, I guess that would work, if your rifle has one of those plungers. I wonder just how many different carrier's that there are and whether are not that they are interchangeable. After some more googling, I ran into a reference to Jack First gun parts. I called them today. The lady that I talked to said that they had 1 carrier for a .357 1894C for $83 and something and $10.50 shipping, but that they did not have any others. I have an 1894 and I have an 1894CS. I'm not sure if the carrier that Jack First has will work in either one of my rifles. I told her to send it to me. I'm wondering what it looks like and whether or not if it will fit and working either of my rifles. I guess I will just have to see.

to our gunsmiths, Can one rechamber a Marlin 1894 from 44 mag to shoot a 44-40? Without setting the barrel back. River

I lucked up on a nice 1894 Marlin in 32-20 but it has a significant notch on the bottom of the lifter. At some point in the near future, it will probably need to be repaired or replaced. My question is, does the 32-20 rifle use the same lifter as the 357? On the surface, it looks like it would, since the cartridge length is the same (relatively) & the cartridge head diameter is pretty close. Thanks in advance! Holler

still new, but really need/want to upgrade the daughter ( Loaded Gun, #100954 who was BEAMING after her 2nd match) to better rifle from her Rossi (smoother cocking, look at weight, etc) so looking over Marlins, is there any huge difference (other than $$ to $$$ more) to go with the .38 Cowboy Comp 20" over the 1894CS 18.5" other than 1) sure lots better looking, and 2) limited numbers? Sticking with .38, 125 grain FPRN right now due to having several thousand cast bullets for them she is going to shoot it, so it won't be a safe queen. Any truth the Cowboy Comp is 'factory tuned' or more CAS ready? Sold some things on Gunbroker, so I don't mind spending the money on my girl, but I want to do it right, without maybe having to send it off for gunsmithing/slicking. thanks from the Rookie...

Was able to score an old Marlin I have been looking for, a 45-70 Marlin. Specifically, a “JM” Stamped Marlin 1895 Cowboy, 26” octagonal barrel w/ box, owner’s manual & original receipt. Has had an action job, a Wild West “Trigger Happy” upgrade, a Marbles Tang Sight, Lyman Globe Front Sight, Lee Shaver sight inserts, and a Pachmayer “Old English” recoil pad added. Now to get something for the wife. Maybe a new Kimber Supper Custom Carry?

I am fitting a new stock on my 1889 marlin and getting very close to having it fit mice. What can I paint on the wood or metal to mark where I need to remove the last bits. Don't want to stain the wood with something I cant get off. Thank You Bullett 19707

When I first started shooting SASS I bought a Marlin 1894. Its was a decent gun to start in the sport but was quickly replaced by a tuned 1873 (bought one for my wife and quickly had to follow with one of my own to keep up). The marlin was gathering dust due to the rougher action and the occasional feeding issues it was having. As we're getting a friend into SASS shooting I dusted off the old gun for a loaner but found it somewhat frustrating to shoot. Marlin did some work under warranty to help with the feeding issue (still not perfect but much better) but I wanted to find a good gunsmith that may be able to tune it up a bit and make it more reliable. Its a stainless (non cowboy) model if that matters. Any suggestions or recommendations? I live in Ohio but can ship it as necessary. thanks
