  1. New Sheriffs in Town! Tejas Caballeros The Former Construction Club! In the last six years, the Cabs and the landowners built 10 elaborate Covered Stages with Boardwalks, a City Hall, an Annex, a Buffalo Camp, Restrooms, Paved roads, a Berm, and a Long Range out to 466 yards. So much work that a common joke among us, was that we were a construction club with a shooting habit! Now Open! Tejas Caballeros The Shooting Club! Things have changed. We have a new Board with new officers, including: Kincade (1st VP) Pb Buffalo (2nd VP) Rogue Heeler (Asst Range Officer) Little George (Medical Officer) Heart Stopper (Scorekeeper) Black Jack Blake (Photographer) Doc Holloman (Wild Bunch Range Officer) Our new Board made changes to concentrate on shooting. We welcome fast shooters, as well as new shooters. Recent Improvements are: We replaced old target stands with new target stands bought from Two Spurs and Dodger Targets to reduce splatter; We moved targets closer; We replaced small targets with bigger targets; For those who want a challenge, we created a Sharpshooter category with separate targets; We created a Wild Bunch match; We improved Long Range with a new course of fire out to 466 yards from12 shooting tables; We have New Shooter Classes every 3rd & 5th Saturday, to bring new shooters into the sport; Members can practice being fast throughout the month; and Dry Camping and RV Camping is available. If you haven’t shot with the Cabs recently, give us a try. Things have changed! New Sheriffs are in town! BTW, the match on Saturday, September 16, is free! There's also a free lunch. Come shoot with us and check out the Cabs!
  2. I purchased a Browning High Wall 45-70 to start long range shooting at side matches. Are the tube scopes seen in old westerns, ie Outlaw Josie Wales, SASS approved? If so, where could a person purchase such a scope and what is the approved power. Old eyes do not do too well with the hard sites at long range.
  3. If I could buy a new current Wincester 45-70 Highwall, would it be legal in SASS side matches?

  8. This coming weekend is Thunder in the Valley, Firelands 3 day shoot! Friday is side matches and I just wanted to remind you that we will have a long range stage. It's a little short of 100 yds. Rifle caliber lever and single shot, pistol caliber rifle and also a target about half way for pistol. Smokeless and black powder are dofferent categories. Don't forget to bring your big bore rifles, one target 6 rounds. You can shoot it twice and the best of the 2 scores will be counted. You can shoot it as many times as you want but only twice for recorded times. It tends to draw alot of shooters so we need to limit the times you can shoot it for a score. See ya'll friday at HIGH NOON!!
  9. A question for long range shooters: From my days shooting scoped, bolt action rifles for accuracy, I learned to weigh cases and bullets and shoot similar weights in the same string of shots. How necessary is that with black powder rifles. Im shooting a Winchester 1895 clone in 45-70 and a Sharps clone in 45-120. The bullets I find (all well cast from reliable sources) vary in weight by about 10 grains. Im grouping those bullets in half grain increments. Am I on the right track, or am I being a bit too annul with all this? Haole
