  1. The Branson Classic, hosted by the Butterfield Trail Cowboys, will be held September 1st through the 3rd. Participants will shoot a 10 stage Cowboy Action match. There will also be side matches, warm up match, two lunch on the range, and awards. The range is between Branson and Springfield Missouri with plenty of attractions, lodging and food to choose. 2. Howdy, Pards! I just acquired a Remington Rolling Block (a beautiful New York National Guard 3-band version) chambered in .50-70. This is an unusual caliber, and I've never reloaded for it. The rifle came with a Lyman die set and 20 pieces of brass (no head stamp). Does anyone have any experience with reloading BP for this cartridge? I believe the bore should slug at .515 (haven't done it yet), so 50-70 Sharps will be a tad small (I think they're .512 dia.). Looks like I'll have to cast my own with the Lee 515-450 mold. I guess 20:1 alloy? I would love to have a conversation with someone familiar with this cartridge. I've watched a few YouTube videos on reloading for it. but I'd feel more comfortable being able to ask questions. Thanks for your help! Hiram
  3. I shot my first complete black powder match last weekend. It went really well for me in general. the pistol and rifle rounds all went off like they were meant to and the shotgun shells handled the knockdown targets fine. The only problem I had was by the time I got to the fourth and final stage, my rifle, an 1866 yellowboy, refused to cycle it's action. After the stage was over, I was able to clear the magazine and get the action working again. I can only think that the action was gummed up by BP deposits and crud as I also noticed my revolvers were not "revolving" as well as they had at the start of the day. So I seek the expertise of the Wire and would like to hear your suggestions on a simple and quick way to clean the actions between stages. P.S. On cleanup at home, I have no problems with fouling in the barrels themselves and they clean up to a mirror finish with a soaking of Inox, patches and a boresnake.
  4. I was looking at Taylor & Co's Runnin’ Iron – Black Rock and there is a note: "Must specify whether using the revolver for mounted shooting blackpowder blanks when ordering." What changes would be made to the gun if it was intended to fire black powder blanks and what would happen if an unmodified gun was used to shoot black powder blanks?
  5. At Allie's request I've eliminated the link to my website. Clearly I just can't do anything right. 6. Since Edward R. S. Canby mentioned the test in the Smoke Standard thread, I've posted the results chart at .32 H & R Smoke Standard Test The usual disclaimers apply since the smoke standard is a subjective one, like gymnastics judging or costume contests, not something measurable with equipment like power factors or stage times. The disclaimer is: If your load fails a Smoke Standard Test, you can't blame the article. You get the penalty. I will also note, less there is more misunderstanding than there already is on the subject, we didn't get to test a full charge 777 load or a full charge APP load. 777 has a considerable number of disclaimers on their website, enough to cause Canby to fear for his wife's Rugers. If you put in enough powder, and you can, it will pass. The comment in the ROII Handbook applies: Basic conclusion: Yes, you can make SASS legal loads in .32 H & R using blackpowder or any of the currently available substitutes. Expect the full article in the December CC.
