Price is average but if you live out here this is the first I've seen. Don't save on tax or price but no hazmet fee and supports locals. Superior in Tyler Texas. Probably at the Longview store too. I need LPP so didn't help me much, but there it is if you need it.

I have a '97 with a worn Takedown Extension. (see pictures) I was able to get the broken Extension off of the gun. I also have a parts gun with a nearly pristine extension. I cannot get this off the parts gun. I have been researching and have found that there is a CNC'ed jig available to specifically remove this Takedown Extension as this part can be easily bent. I cannot find anywhere that sells these jigs. Does anyone know where I can find one of these? Much obliged , The OTJ

So, in spite of all rational thinking, I am getting a hankering for an 1892 in 357 mag. I've got a 73 and it is sheer fun to shoot, but when I got my lever gun itch before SASS, I was looking for a 92 and got sidetracked by a pre 64 model 94 in 30-30. Well that itch is starting to creep up again. I'm thinking a light lever gun would be fun to shoot and I might get the missus out with it to boot. So what's the availability these days? I hear about the Winchesters and a somewhat problematic tang safety and about Rossi and the slick up work, but it's all moot if neither are available. Of course there's always my unicorn pre 64 Winchester 92 converted to 357.... So what do y'all say?

I’m hoping I can get some help. My father in law told me “if anyone would know, these guys would”. So here I am. I recently purchased an 1897 Winchester. All is good except I paid very little, and it looks too perfect to be the real deal. The serial number puts it as 1906 with a D prefix. “D324740” I’m familiar with newer firearms but the older, originals, not so. I’ll include some pictures for all to look at, but I’ve found if it’s too good to be true???Well, y’all understand. It’s got some scratches on the receiver where obviously someone tried to open the takedown feature with a screwdriver (can be easily repaired) but the rest is immaculate. Is it original? Has it been restored? Do they make replica’s with Winchester written and stamped? Has it just been put up for 100+ years? Any and all opinions and help will be very appreciated. Thanks Alan

I am seeking to purchase a Winchester 1892 model carbine with a large loop lever. So far I've only found it available in 45 colt and 44-40. I am interested in the 16" barrel, but can only find it NIB in 20". My question: 44-40 vs 45 colt. Which performs better in factory loads (regardless of cost or availability), and why? Note: I will NOT be reloading, and I don't mind searching for rounds then stocking up. I prefer factory ammo, and I don't care which is less expensive or less available...just which performs better. Intended use: I am interested in using the rifle for indoor/outdoor range shooting, possibly hunting, and hopefully SASS in the future once I get my kit together. Again, I'm not going to reload, ever. I prefer to purchase manufactured ammo. I am also aware of LeverEvolution ammo, which looks intriguing.

Hello All, I am new to lever guns and have an overwhelming urge to get into it for all the right reasons. My use would be mostly at the range, perhaps some Cowboy Action Shooting and the occasional hunt - turkey, hog, deer and the like. Based on that and cost I have decided that .357 Mag would be my caliber of choice. I originally landed on a Model 1873 but I have developed some concerns that the rifle can handle .357 Mag for extended periods and I have learned that the 1892 is a much stronger action. With all of that I can't decide between two guns as noted in the title. I like the look and feel of the Winchester but I am not a fan of the safety on the receiver - somehow that just doesn't look right. With the Browning I like the thought of a classic from the maker himself - I know it's made in Japan - but I have read that it is more true than the Winchester. With that I thought I would reach out to the community and get your thought to which you would pick and why. Thank you. -
Howdy, folks! I've got a question for y'all. I've only been shooting CAS for six months, and I'm wanting to get into B-Western. My main reason is that I already have the clothes for it; they're my everyday wear. What's the best rifle for B-Western that's NOT a Marlin? Fastest, most reliable, longest lasting? I'm a lefty, and every Marlin I've shot throws the hot brass right onto my right arm, which gets old fast. I was considering a Rossi M92, IF I can find one. Price is also a deciding factor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Howdy all. I’m in the process of swapping out the lever of my 92 for a big loop I bought from Stevesguns. He did say it may require some fitting or it may drop in. It does require some fitting. I'd like some advice. I am interested in buying a lever action rifle and single action revolver (ideally in the same caliber, but not required). I'm a Marine and have a lot of experience with semi-automatics, but little experience with revolvers or lever action rifles. I primarily want them for novelty and fun shooting, which makes me think I should get a pistol caliber such as 357 or 45 LC 1873 or 1892 Winchester. I have no experience with these types of guns, so I don't know what else they are well suited for besides Cowboy Action Shooting, which I'd enjoy getting into someday. So essentially I'm wondering (to figure out which brand/caliber would be best): 1. Which is better between the 1873 and 1892? I've heard that the 1873 has a smoother action, and the 1892 has a stronger action (Although I admit I don't really understand what that means). 2. If I want to use the rifle for hunting, would the 30-30 caliber 1894 be better? 3. For the 1892, is the Chiappa Alaskan Takedown better or worse than the Winchester? 4. Rifle vs carbine vs musket argument? (Picture of musket attached) 5. For the pistol, which is better between Ruger Vaquero and Uberti? Or is there a better one than those? 6. Do Cowboy Action Shooters shoot a lower caliber so they can shoot faster and more accurately? (Such as using a 357 pistol with 38 special rounds in it). Or do they typically go 45 LC or 44-40 for authenticity?

Marlin 1894CB, 44-40, Hornady 240gr SWC-HP #11118 and a load of Reloder 7. Velocity about 1,425fps. High Pressure, High Velocity not for the Henry, Winchester 66' and 73' weak action style rifles. Deer hit at about 60-75 yards. Hit the top of the shoulder broadside, turned 90deg, road down the spine and stopped in the hind quarters. Processor gave up looking for the bullet until he was cutting up the hind quarters where he found it. Buck dropped straight down, never took a step.

I've been looking at Buds Gun Shop (because they do layaway) at the various 1866 & 1873 rifles. The have Winchesters and Cimarrons in .44-40 both for around $1K. Which would be the best seeing that the money is basically the same? Also, I kind of like the aesthetics of the brass receiver on the 66, but I'd like to know if there is any functional advantage of the 1873 over the 1866. Since I plan on shooting Frontiersman, I'll be reloading my own cartridges with BP, and I understand that the necked down cartridges such as the .44-40 are the way to go to minimize back fowling. Your opinions on this as well, please. Steers y'all

Quick question: I'm looking to buy a new '73 and I'm wondering what the difference between the Winchester/Miroku and the Uberti actually is. What is the preferred version? What makes one better than the other? And is there even a big defference other than the $100 price difference to have the name " WInchester" on it?

I was looking on Gun Broker and found two of the new Winchesters (Miroko) in 44/40. I believe that the starting bid was $1149.00. Hard to find this gun in this caliber. I know that there have been some cowboys looking for one in 44/40 on the wire so here you go. I bought mine about this time last year and have been VERY happy with it. I haven't had any issues with it at all. Great gun in a great caliber. Cheatin'

I plan to give Wild Bunch a try and am considering a model 12 for the job. I have heard some pretty good things about them. I know people will say to get a 97 and use it for both wild bunch and sass, but truth be told I don't much care for the pump action. I prefer my SxS and my 87 for sass. So what is it I need to know about the model 12? Are there clones out there or did Winchester make plenty (more than 2 million I read) that that's the go to gun? Are there good and bad years? How much work needs to be done? Who does that kind of work? What kind of price are we talking for both? Anything else I forget? Thanks a bunch for the advice fellas.

I wanted to start a little discussion here about the 1873. In particular, I would like to talk about some of the advantages and disadvantages of both the Winchester model and the Uberti. One of these rifles is in my future. Which one is still up for debate. What I do know that is a disadvantage of the WInchester is both the availability and the limited choices. So if all those folks that love the 1873 can chime in and talk about which models they have and why, barrel lengths, cost of upgrades and maintenance, looks of course, and anything else that comes to mind I'd greatly appreciate it. I especially want to hear from those that have both brands and their thoughts. Also, I plan to get mine in either 45 colt or 44-40. I shoot mostly 45 Colt right now, but I would not be opposed to using the 44-40 in this particular gun and also expanding my reloading repertoire.

Hello Ladies and Gentleman, I went to the NRA meeting in Indianapolis, IN and was looking at all the M-1873s available. I really like the new Winchester 73 in 38/357. Has anyone shot one of these? What are the pros and cons about this rifle? While I really like this rifle ,I don't want to purchase one that might cost more than it is worth in the long run.
