Howdy all, I have an older (early 2000) pietta 1851 navy in 36 caliber and was curious if I could swap cylinders and barrels to make it a 44? Does that work or do I need to buy a 44. Thanks Dark Horse

Been reading a lot of the past THREADS regarding Cap & Ball Revolvers and wanted to get a consolidated view of the Pros and Cons of each type. I've read that there may be issues with knockdowns with the .36 cal and that the .44 cal is better. Which ammo supplies are the least expensive? Does it really make a difference whether it's an 1858 an 1860 or an 1861? Which brand is better made out of the box, Uberti, Remington, or any other manufacturer? Which one is easier to modify, and what would those modification be, and why would they be needed? Lastly, should one let the cost get in the way of their decision? What I mean by this, is are there just as well made, high quality revolvers at a better price point than stepping up to a more expensive model. Thanks for your input.

So, Just wondering. Why, with all of the costume categories (some that require a specific firearm), are there no Major / Minor caliber categories. Surely I am not the only one who has ever broached this subject? I mean the .45 Colt and 44/40 were the most popular / produced calibers. Why??

I had a 410 shotgun as a kid. My wife used to shoot with her father. We recently discovered Cowboy Action and love the idea of doing this together. At first we plan on sharing the same guns. I've read on the internet that using the same caliber for the rifle and revolvers makes sense. (we plan on reloading - she used to do it as a kid) Currently we don't own any guns so we are free to choose any caliber. We plan on buying a pair of Ruger Vaqueros and a Uberti 1873 rifle (20"). We are retired and have no illusions about our skills. We simply fell in love with the sport, the costumes and the People. 1. Are these good choices for guns? 2. What caliber would you recommend?

I recently picked up an old Belgian made British Bulldog, made pre 1898. It seems to be in good shape overall, despite missing the trigger return spring. (That's probably a whole other thread right there!) Neither I nor the seller know the caliber though. He said it's .44 or .45, but didn't know much else. Can anyone give me an idea of what caliber these dimensions would suggest? OAL of Cylinder: 1.3135 in, but there's a black ring a little further forward than half, on the inside, so I imagine the cartridge was considerably shorter. Interior of Chambers: .45 to .4520 in. Rebated area for case rim: .4995 to .5165 in Bbl- groove to groove: .4135 in Bbl- land to land: .4035 in Any direction on this would be appreciated. I'm not even sure what calibers these were offered in.
