  1. This is a beautiful set of matching carpetbag and handbag. Made by Miss April’s, these are high quality with heavy corduroy fabric. The carpetbag has brass rivets, leather handles, and a sturdy bottom with brass supports. It is roomy enough to hold two full sets of gun leather or a full change of clothes. It also has several inner pockets to allow easy access to smaller items. It would make a great range bag or even an overnight bag.
The handbag is just as study and has enough room to hold everything a lady needs for a day of shooting. It has a silky green liner and silken draw strings.
Really must see to appreciate the quality of these bags!

  2. I got it off. Soaking in Kroil didn’t work. It still wouldn’t budge. I used a cut off wheel to take it down near to the barrel then used a hacksaw to slowly remove metal without cutting into the barrel. When it was close, I was able to pinch it off with a pair of plier. New sight was installed and the barrel is safe.

    Thanks everyone.

  3. Hey pards, I have an Uberti ‘73 rifle and need to replace the front sight. Unfortunately, the old sight is stuck hard and I cannot remove it. I clamped the barrel firmly in a vice and pounded on it with a brass punch attempting to remove the sight from left to right, but with no luck. I tried a heavier hammer and large punch but the metal of the sight is starting to deform without any indication that it is moving out of the dovetail at all. It is stuck tight.

What are some suggestions on removing it? Can I safely apply some heat to the barrel? Can I safely use a solvent to loosen that may be heavy-strength Loctite?

    I’m open to suggestions.

    Thanks

  4. This is a vintage Marlin model ‘94 in .44-40. Factory records are sketchy for Marlins but the best guess is somewhere around 1912 to 1915 production.

The finish is worn almost to white, and I suspect someone “cleaned” it to make it that way. But it is in perfect working order and I have shot it at several matches. It is not as smooth as a slicked—up modern gun, but it functions well. The bore is rust free but has some shallow pitting. It is hitting to point of aim with my cowboy loads. Wood is in good condition with some dings but no cracks. Overall, she’s in fine condition for her age.

This would make a great gun for Classic Cowboy or Frontier Cartridge. Or just a great addition to a collection.

  5. I have a pre-WW1 Mauser in 8x57J that has a 1950s-era Lyman Challenger 4X scope with a 26mm tube. There is an issue with the scope that I cannot sort and I would like to replace it with a modern scope. The scope rings are a custom job on a quick-release base. The rings are in good condition and impossible to replace anyway, so I want to fit a new scope to them.

I am not able to find a modern scope with 26mm tubes. I am hoping a European company makes them today, or I would like a technical solution to adapt a 1 scope to the 26mm rings. Maybe an adapter shim?

I’d appreciate a chance to speak with someone that knows about vintage scopes and/or European scopes and can give me advice.

    Thanks
