  1. I used to ride with an 1800's themed horseman's charity group an one of my uniforms was straight out of "Ride with the Devil".

I made my Battle Shirt from an old bib-style shirt. Cut it wide at the neck and disposed of the bib. Sewed on some big pocket with the trimmed edges.

I used to wear it over a Camp Harris checked shirt.

    Branchwater Jack;

I really like the ones made by the company in your second link. Thank You. Gonna have to get me one of their Guerilla Shirts.

AG, you just gave me a great idea. Thanks, pard!
  2. Yep. Like I said though, I have long since known about these companies. Does anyone know of people who might make them as a side business of sorts? There was someone who sent me pictures way back when of some of his/her work, but for the life of me, I cannot remember who. I was especially inerested in that person's product line, as they made replicas of the batle shirts worn in "Ride With The Devil." Oh well, that's what I get for not saving stuff...

  3. I think I posted this question years ago, but didn't save the answers. I have also "googled" it to death.

Do any of y'all know people/small companies that make the confederate battle shirts, like the ones that were worn by Quantrill's raiders? If you do, I would be forever in your debt.

  4. Well, talk about a coincidence! I just came upstairs from loading 3 boxes of STS and AA hulls with Black Powder and Circle Fly fiber wads. I would hate to guess how many of these loads I have shot over the years, but it must be several thousand. Thanks for reminding me I need to order more Circle Fly wads.

First things first. This ain't trap or skeet. We ain't trying to hit a little clay disk flying away from us at 40 mph. Mostly the targets are up close and personal and they're not moving. So there is no reason to be concerned about whether using separate fiber wads opens up the pattern one notch. It just does not matter. No, I have never patterned my loads. But I have fired several thousand of them at plates and knockdowns. If my patterns are being blown, I sure don't see any evidence of it. Personally, I think patterns are much more likely to be blown by overpowering the shot with too much powder than any effect that separate wads have. Everything I point my shotgun at falls down when I pull the trigger. And I have smashed lots of clay birds popped straight up too. No, I did not do too well when I tried a round of trap with my loads, but my 24" open choke SXS is not much of a Trap gun, and like I said, we ain't shooting trap.

I have used my loads with an old boxlock Stevens with 30" full choke barrels and my current 24" cylinder bore Stevens hammer gun. The loads perform fine with either gun. The main trick is to take a moment to actually aim. Yeah, I know somebody is going to chime in and say you don't aim a shotgun, you point it. But like I said, this ain't trap or skeet. I aim my CAS shotgun no different than I aim my rifle. I put the front bead on the target and pull the trigger. When I shoot Trap, I point the gun.

We can't put load data here on the wire, but if anybody is interested in my 12 gauge BP load with separate fiber wads, just send me a PM.

Did I mention this ain't trap or skeet?

    Yes I would, thank you.

  5. I wish I could be there with you guys. Unfortunately the doc will not clear me for exercise until after Monday I hope :-) I am so weak I can't hold a 97 up with one hand yet. Gimme me until the seige and I should be ready for a 2 day match!

Good luck to all my parts going to this match. It sounds like I am going to miss a great time :-(

    -Deadlee

DH, I'm like you. I won't be able to shoot the match due to heal-related reasons, but I will be there Sunday morning to conduct Cowboy Shurch.

  6. An old friend of mine works for an aircraft fastener manufacturer. They recently attended a function in DC to receive a preferred supplier award from some government agency (I do not remember which one). Their host/guide that day kept telling Paul and his entourage how "appreciatory" they were of Paul's employer.

APPRECIATORY?????? Where in the blue hell did THAT b*st*rdized word come from? And to make matters worse, the gentleman using the word kept reminding Paul about his Masters degree. SHEESH!

  7. How are you cleaning barrels? Are you shooting real BP? With my Baikal it takes only to plug muzzle with rubber corks, fill barrels

with HOT water, let stand for 10 min., pull corks & push thru 1/2 paper towel -- clean as a whistle. Plastic snakes come out usually in one long piece with the water. Bore mop with Ballistol or your choice of rust preventative & it's done.

Clean up is not that big a deal, Yusta. I am just looking for a way to make it easier. You know me, I'm lazy as all getout.

  8. Pards, I am toying with the notion of using fiber wads in plastic shotgun shells with my BP loads, in lieu of plastic wads. I'm thinking it will make for easier cleaning, as I won't have to clean out the melted wads from the insides of the barrels. Have any of you done this? If so, have you noticed any difference in shot spread during firing, or anything like that? As usual, thank you in advance.

  9. All of this reminded me of an article in Aviation Week that I read years ago. Congress was going through one of its many gyrations at the time to cancel production of the A-10 Warthog. Piper Aircraft was preparing an unsolicited bid for what they called a low-cost alternative. The engineers at Piper had taken a vintage P-51 airframe and modified it to hold a turboprop engine and a (if I remember correctly) 30mm cannon. Obviously the A-10 was never cancelled, so Piper's prototype never went anywhere. But it sure would have been interesting.

  10. UB, thanks for your service and commitment to the US :FlagAm:

Amen. Speaking as one who did not serve (my eyesight kept me out), you all are made from much sterner stuff than me. I truly admire you all.
