North Dakota Governor Welcomes NRA to Bill Signing Ceremony

Fairfax, Va. - The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action North Dakota State Director Brian Gosch joined Gov. Doug Burgum at a ceremonial bill signing today for a number of NRA-backed bills including House Bill 1498, legislation that allows law-abiding North Dakotans to stand their ground.

"Thanks to Gov. Burgum, law-abiding North Dakotans will now have the ability to defend themselves and their families when away from the home," said Brian Gosch, NRA-ILA's North Dakota state director. "It's a commonsense law that puts the rights for the people above the rights of the criminals."

Monday's ceremonial signing was attended by sponsors and supporters of the legislation including, but not limited to, Speaker Koppelman, Sen. Myrdal, and Sen. Larson. In addition to the Stand Your Ground law (officially signed last week), the ceremony also celebrated the signing of;

  • HB 1450 to allow more individuals to exercise their right to self-defense.
  • HB 1293 that expands the list of firearms that can be carried in a vehicle & reduces permitless carry residency requirements to 30 days.
  • HB 1297 that increases the number of locations law-abiding gun owners can carry.
  • SB 2344 to protect those who sell firearms and implements State of Emergency protections.

"NRA members in North Dakota should thank Gov. Burgum, Rep. Ben Koppleman, and all those who voted to make it safer for law-abiding North Dakotans to protect themselves and their families," concluded Gosch.
