Rhode Island: Marathon Judiciary Hearing Ends, But Outcome Far from Determined

The House Judiciary Committee went late into the evening last Friday night, hearing testimony remotely and debating nearly two dozen gun bills on the agenda.  As reported previously, most of the legislation consisted of anti-gun bills that have been introduced for years, with a few notable exceptions.

All of the bills were “held for further study,” a procedural move that keeps them alive.  At any point in the session, these bills can quickly be revived and brought to the floor for a vote.  The Senate has not held a committee hearing on its gun bills yet, but we anticipate that will occur in the coming weeks.

We wanted to thank all of those who took the time to either testify via phone or submit written testimony.  It is very important that you continue to contact your State Representative and respectfully voice your opposition to anti-gun legislation in Providence.
