South Dakota: Committee Passes Enhanced Preemption Bill

esterday, the House Local Government Committee passed legislation that would strengthen South Dakota’s preemption laws, House Bill 1056, by an 8 to 4 vote.  HB 1056 will now head to the House Floor for further consideration.  Please contact your state Representative and strongly urge them to SUPPORT HB 1056.

Recently, there have been multiple local municipalities attempting to enact their own gun control through local ordinances or resolutions.  These types of unnecessary anti-gun measures attempt to go beyond state law by imposing further burdens on law-abiding gun owners in South Dakota.  House Bill 1056 seeks to enhance South Dakota’s current preemption laws by further restricting the ability of local municipalities to enact a complex patchwork of gun laws throughout the state.

Again, please contact your state Representative and strongly urge them to SUPPORT House Bill 1056.
