Bugs Bonney SASS # 10171
Poem alert you guess the author (and with my apologies to him) Eternal Peace Since the ancient Christian zealots With an early Christan smile Beat the brains out of heathens In a very righteous style Down the passion-clouded ages To the inquisitions time Have all sorts of other bigots Practiced every sort of crime The Round Heads with intolerance Lopped the curly heads off peers Singing Psalms the while heads rotted Stuck aloft on grisly spears And the pious folks of Salem Burned their witches with great glee Fully confident that Heaven Took delight such sights to see. So today in equal folly Does our President assail Those who still upholding honor The Millenium will not hail. Yes, this last demented creature Seeks with words to crucify Those, who for their Country’s honor, Still are not afraid to die. Yet as surely as these others Have at last been held to shame So will future generations Our poor President defame. For a thousand years ahead of us Will you as surely find The world as full of passion As a thousand years behind. For mankind is just as warlike As it was before the flood And the clay which molds us moderns Is the same old blood-soaked mud.
