New Sheriffs in Town! Tejas Caballeros The Former Construction Club! In the last six years, the Cabs and the landowners built 10 elaborate Covered Stages with Boardwalks, a City Hall, an Annex, a Buffalo Camp, Restrooms, Paved roads, a Berm, and a Long Range out to 466 yards. So much work that a common joke among us, was that we were a construction club with a shooting habit! Now Open! Tejas Caballeros The Shooting Club! Things have changed. We have a new Board with new officers, including: Kincade (1st VP) Pb Buffalo (2nd VP) Rogue Heeler (Asst Range Officer) Little George (Medical Officer) Heart Stopper (Scorekeeper) Black Jack Blake (Photographer) Doc Holloman (Wild Bunch Range Officer) Our new Board made changes to concentrate on shooting. We welcome fast shooters, as well as new shooters. Recent Improvements are: We replaced old target stands with new target stands bought from Two Spurs and Dodger Targets to reduce splatter; We moved targets closer; We replaced small targets with bigger targets; For those who want a challenge, we created a Sharpshooter category with separate targets; We created a Wild Bunch match; We improved Long Range with a new course of fire out to 466 yards from12 shooting tables; We have New Shooter Classes every 3rd & 5th Saturday, to bring new shooters into the sport; Members can practice being fast throughout the month; and Dry Camping and RV Camping is available. We need more, but some schools in Texas are showing that they are not easy targets! Hope there are many many more that I don't know of. This non-fiction book was Written by Richard Zelade, and published by Charleston London History Press in 2014. This is a history of vice in The First Ward of Austin, Texas, in the late 19th Century. I thought it was going to cover saloons, but addresses gambling and prostitution, as well. The First Ward covers several city blocks north of the Colorado River and south of the State capitol building. For Univ of TX alumni, this included an area that is currently served by some of today’s pubs and restaurants (but, not as raunchy). Appropriately, this does not portray the area with any romanticism, but it’s an excellent historical read. I used to eat at the Fado Irish pub with friends on 4th Street (it’s gone now), and I had no idea what transpired on that very spot over several decades a century ago until I read this book. I recommend it for adults. I did find a book on Texas saloons, which I haven’t read, yet.

Just read & saw the story re 45 Rattlers under someones home in Texas...further the catchers said 88 were taken from another property...can you really be unaware that there is that many snakes under ya' house? What would they be eating & surely they wouldn't stayput all the time...this question is from someone who has no idea but I do know I would crap myself if I knew they were there !!

Looking for a hog hunt in Oklahoma or North Texas. Anybody have any experience? Looking for probably 3 days.

Judge Menday Coming and Margo Rita have filed deed restrictions assuring the Tejas Caballeros access to the cowboy action shooting range on their ranch just west of Blanco, Texas. They also signed a 99-year lease with the Cabs. This means the Cabs have a permanent range near Austin and San Antonio. We have 7 stages so far. The plan is to have a covered boardwalk and 12 stages, so that we can shoot rain or shine. Here is a link to a short slide show about the range. Come out and shoot with us.

Where you live makes a difference. Thank goodness I live in Texas. You may have heard on the news about a Southern California man who was put under 72-hour psychiatric observation when it was found he owned 100 guns and allegedly had 100,000 rounds of ammunition stored in his home. The house also featured a secret escape tunnel. In Southern California standards, someone owning 100,000 rounds is considered "mentally unstable." In Michigan, he'd be called "The last white guy still living in Detroit." In Arizona, he'd be called "an avid gun collector." In Arkansas, he'd be called "a novice gun collector." In Utah, he'd be called "moderately well prepared," but they'd probably reserve judgment until they made sure that he had a corresponding quantity of stored food." In Kansas, he'd be "A guy down the road you would want to have for a friend." In Montana, he'd be called "The neighborhood 'Go-To' guy." In Idaho, he'd be called "a likely gubernatorial candidate." In North Carolina, Virginia, W.Va., Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky and South Carolina he would be called "a deer hunting buddy." Hello everyone. I do not post here often but thought this was worth taking up your time. I have not been to Trailhead in 9 years. My friend, Handlebar Bob, won a free entry and I elected to join him this past weekend. The Trailhead of 2014 was a significant and welcome change from the Trailhead of 2005. Pistol targets were close and pretty large (circles, diamonds, and squares). Rifle targets in about half the stages were in close, in one case “Ft. Parker close”. None of the shooting orders were complicated and pistol and rifle orders were the same. Of significant note was THSS's strong commitment to costuming. They announced that if you showed up to the banquet “not appropriately dressed” you would not be eligible for awards, prizes, nor would you get photographed if you won. No ball caps and T-shirts were at the banquet. I saw many old friends, Texas Slick, Charles Goodnight, Catfish Doyle, Rowdy, Crazy Ed, River Rat, Hannah Call, Clementine, Rose Dawn Blanton, to name but a few of maybe 50 or more THSS’ers that welcomed me back. Many people post “What was wrong” with a shoot. I am going to post what went right. This shoot went right. It was a good shoot, no procedural traps, no complicated stages, no politics.
