Is there a list of SxS shotguns out there that don't have ejectors on them that are SASS approved?? Lot of guns out there and not all of them say whether or not they ejectors or not.

Background Info: At the Illinois State Championship match in Milan Illinois last weekend, on our first stage, my wife's Stoeger Coachgun single trigger 12ga opened on its own after her first shot (right barrel). I purchased this shotgun new on 2023-06-24. After her ST opened up on her, she used my Stoeger Coachgun Supreme double trigger for the rest of the match. I was videoing when it happened, and I've included a frame showing the dang thing opening on her. When it was new, I installed a “Palo Verde Stoeger Top Lever Spring” from Long Hunter. It's adjustable by spacer selection. I chose the least tension without there being any slop in the top lever. It's been working fine that way for a year, but now, out of the blue, it has started opening on its own. My Cowboy load recipe is 7/8 oz #8 shot, 10.7g of Hodgdon Clays, Federal 209A primers. I took it to my local range and shot some Bornaghi 7/8 oz SubSound shells and it opened on its own after the first shot every time. Then I added spacers to the Palo Verde top lever spring to make it the highest spring tension possible. Then went to the range again. The first test was the SubSounds and it failed (opened on its own) 5 out of 5 times. The second test was our cowboy loads and it worked fine 10 out of 10 times. That is, two shells in it but firing the right barrel each time. So, it's sort of still broke but, on the other hand, it works for our purposes. My question: Is it still broke and it's just a matter of time until she gets bit by the dang thing in a match? Is there anything I can do to make it latch closed more tightly?

So the screw fell out it’s on the left side when your aiming the gun, right side when you flip it over, I’m just trying to identify the screw so I don’t end up buying the wrong one. LGS has a Rossi Overland (used) and a Stoeger Coach (new). I’m new to CAS and trying not to wear out my old ‘97. My only other shotgun experience is a Winchester Model 24 SxS, but that was a gift from my late grandfather and I’d hate to run it too hard. Right now, the Rossi is about $150 more than the Stoeger. I like the look and feel of the exposed hammers, but I’ve seen that repair parts may be hard to come by. Can anyone weigh in with their own experiences, opinions, or alternative recommendations? Don’t know anything about these. Hope someone has some information if they can be made into a good cowboy gun. KYGUNCO has them in stock for $476 shipped. I do not want one I am just putting it up if anyone is looking.

Just acquired an Austrian made hammer gun from 1910. It has 2 5/8” chambers. Is there any information available about reloading for this? It does not have a Damascus barrel. It is my first Hammer gun and I’m new to reloading and SASS though I’ve got an extensive collection of Cowboy rifles and revolvers and black powder revolvers. I’d appreciate any tips or help in getting started reloading as far as what basic equipment is needed to reload .45 Colt, 12 gauge and 44-40.

OK so I've decided it's time for me to start reloading my own shotgun shells as both the wife and I are shooting more matches every year. I've been doing some research but since I'm new to shotgun reloading I thought I would start here and get some advice from people that have been doing this for a while. I have many questions.... 1 - What press is good for reloading 12 gauge without breaking the bank? Between the two of us we probably shoot about 6 cases of shells a year. 2 - What is the best shot size for our sport? I currently use 7.5. 3 - What powder do you use? Do you load at the minimum end of the load specs? 4 - What shell cases hold up best to reloading - how many times can you reload them? 5 - Does the wad choice matter much? As long as the size is correct, is one better than the other for our sport? 6 - Does the primer brand matter or is any 209 acceptable? Finally, what are some good places to purchase the above supplies? Thanks for any input you have!! Star Shooter

Do you plug your barrel when cleaning? From the breech or muzzle? What size plugs?

Howdy all! I was in a local gun shop the other day, and up in the racks they had a used Century Arms Coach Gun on consignment. The price was stupid cheap, and it got me thinking, are these things any good? Are there any known issues like broken springs or soft firing pins I should be concerned about? I held off on buying it because I've been bitten by cheap guns before.

I came upon this shotgun by accident while surfing around the interweb. I'd never heard of it, never saw it, and don't really know much about it. What intrigued me was that it was a self cocking external hammer design. American Tactical Are these even legal for SASS? IF so why isn't anyone talking about them?

I’m hoping I can get some help. My father in law told me “if anyone would know, these guys would”. So here I am. I recently purchased an 1897 Winchester. All is good except I paid very little, and it looks too perfect to be the real deal. The serial number puts it as 1906 with a D prefix. “D324740” I’m familiar with newer firearms but the older, originals, not so. I’ll include some pictures for all to look at, but I’ve found if it’s too good to be true???Well, y’all understand. It’s got some scratches on the receiver where obviously someone tried to open the takedown feature with a screwdriver (can be easily repaired) but the rest is immaculate. Is it original? Has it been restored? Do they make replica’s with Winchester written and stamped? Has it just been put up for 100+ years? Any and all opinions and help will be very appreciated. Thanks Alan

I'm having problems finding good once fired 12ga shotshells. I like the green 2 3/4 Remingtons but it seems that no one has them anymore. Sooo, I've been thinking of getting new unprimed Cheddite hulls. My question is this - can I use Winchester 209 primers in those hulls? Thanks TC

when shooting frontier in any category I know that the rifle and pistol are done with black powder, does the shotgun have to be black powder as well? I can't seem to find 12 gauge shells made in black powder, and don't have the ability to reload shotgun shell yet

Last November 2018, in Southern California, my Rossi 12ga Overland Shotgun, was taken from my horse trailer. Also my tooled antique rifle scabbard. So if anyone knows of a deal, probably too good to be true. Someone got a nice Xmas present...

Howdy All, What do you think is the best Rifle, Pistols, and shotgun for SASS and WHYYY? This is your opportunity to brag on your gear, your gunsmith, your good deals etc. For the sake of example I will be using my Ruger New Vaqueros. Categories: 1. Out of the box ready to use. Example: Out of the box my Ruger New Vaqueros chambered in .357/38 felt great in my hands, shot straight, cycled flawlessly, and of course looked classy as heck. 2. Durability After having handled Old Vaqueros, Taylors, Cimerrons, Colts, Taurus, and even a few that i cant even remember the names the ruggedness of the ruger is awesome. Ive run full load 357 mags for silhouette, hunting hollow points, and of course Cowboy reloads. The only misfires I've had were from bad ammo. Not from the guns. I keep mine pretty clean. Solid wipe down after each match and a full Diss & Ass after every 300-400 rounds and doing so has no doubt extended their service life. 3. Cost Mine are the 5 1/2" Color case hardened NMV with consecutive serial #s. I got my hands on them two years ago for $1100 after shipping and they will no doubt out live me. 4. Upgrades/Parts/Gun Smithing The stock parts are pretty available. its when you start looking into specialty pieces like lowered hammers that you might start having trouble getting ahold of them. There are lots of very qualified smiths out there that can "slick them up, get them race ready or short stroke them" I had mine done by Shotgun Boogie and let me tell you I'll never go back. The short stroke and smoothness of the action is like nothing on any pistols I've ever handled. 5. Cost of Gun Smithing Welllll it wasn't cheap but when it comes to guns, condoms and toilet paper don't buy cheap or it will cost you more in then long run. 6. It makes me happy and feel cool Theres something intangible about having a pair of pistols that I have always wanted. The blued steel and color case hardening are beautiful. Heck I named my dog Ruger. Long story short, if its the gun you want and it makes happy then get it and shoot for the moon!! Looking forward to hearing everyone's preferences. I use a SxS coach 12gauge and I'm going to start loading my own shotshells. I'm looking to load very light loads due to a shoulder problem, does anyone know of a site that has load data for this? I found a new in the box Russian 12ga Baikal MP220F Hammered Shotgun for 375.00 ( Not the fake hammered version ) I wanted another good real hammered Shotgun too Shoot with my Henry 1860 And My 1860 Cap Guns . It is a little stiff and will need some smoothing up . And it does have Choke Tubes in it . The length of pull is great up to my shoulder. I was looking at the Cimarron Chinese Copy of the Colt . But I really did not care for the feel of the Cimarron hammered shotgun . And I did not care for the Chinese J2000 hammered Shotgun . I know there is NO more Russian Shotguns coming in right now . Just wondering if anyone have any experience with this Russian Hammered Shotgun ? Seems to be very well built shotgun . All as good or better then both of my Stoeger shotguns Thank you . Well as a new shooter I'm embarrassed to say messed up my cocking levers on my single trigger Stoeger Coach gun. I filed too much and now it won't cock. I've located 1 hammer cocking lever and cannot find a second. I've looked all over and found 1 at Midwest gun supply. I need 1 more. Any suggestions? Also is pin removal really difficult? Any help for an embarrassed newby?

I still need to buy a side by side shotgun. My question is does it have be a 1860-1899 replica? Or can it be any shotgun with or without hammers, with extractors, single or double triggers. I know many use Stoeger Coach Guns and they never state what year they replica. I found several Stevens 311's, Parker, Remingtons, Springfields, etc that meet the specifications yet don't have a date.

Very new newbie here, Just joined last week and waiting to attend my first match as an observer. I've been looking around and found a 16 gauge Stevens Model 311 double barrel for a very reasonable price, Is this an allowable gun to use? Thank you pards, Beantown Bandit

I got a 12g Stoeger and a Baikal. Don't know a lot about chokes but I wonder if there is/I could use a choke on my coachgun to use it for shooting trap/skeet (yes, I know its not the bet choice...not looking to be a Skeet competitor, just have some fun).
