What a Viramontes win means for your rifle — and your dealer – Guns Save Life
-
Way back in the summer of 1984, I bought an AR-15 made by the Rock Island Armory in Geneseo, Illinois, called the XM-15. I could not find a listing for this rifle anywhere. I did run into an NRA official a few years ago, and told him what I had. He said that only a handful of these rifles left the factory, as Colt filed a lawsuit in federal court for copyright infringement. Sight unseen, he then offered me 3 brand new Rock River AR-15s, and a case of ammo. I turned him down. LooseRounds.com has a small article about the lawsuit and the injunction won by Colt. I have emailed the manufacturer, but got no reply. The Blue Book of Gun Values has no listing. I would love to know how many XM-15s were made and/or left the factory, and just what my rifle may be worth. Any and all guidance is most welcome.

Let me preface this by saying I don't know much about repairing long guns. About 2 years ago i bought a used Uberti '66 from a pard in NC. It's got a short stroke kit, aluminum carrier and light springs. It worked great for a year then I had to stop shooting for about a year. The gun was stored in a case (unloaded of course) and when I wanted to practice before shooting a match again I loaded it with .38 Snap Caps. I'd done this many times before and the gun worked flawlessly with the Snap Caps and live ammo. Now the first Cap "shoots" and ejects but then the next Cap jams in the carrier - gets in the carrier kind of sideways. I've pulled all the Snap Caps out and reloaded multiple times using different Caps but the same thing continues to happen. Unfortunately the club I now shoot with doesn't have a gunsmith in the club and neither of the local gunsmiths are really experts with CAS type rifles. I was hoping one of you more knowledgeable pards could suggest what I need to replace so I'll at least be able to converse with the gunsmiths nearby. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. 4 Mile Drifter
