Please tell me what's your go to "SASS" event lever gun and if it's is slicked up or not?

Howdy Pards, Going to be shooting in my first out of state competition at the Eas'dern Shore Roundup in Delaware. They are holding a Long Range Rifle side match (also my first). I was thinking about shooting my (1926-made) Winchester 1894 in .32 Win. Spl. As far as I can tell from the Shooters' Handbook, this is a legal firearm and caliber choice. Anyone have any comment/suggestion for me? If I can't use this rifle, I might have to buy a new gun...darn it.

Shooter only shots Nine out of rifle, lays rifle down and tenth round rolls out of the rifle. We had this happen at our last match. They gave the shooter a minor safety. Should it have been a no call as it wasn't still in the rifle? There was talk later on about what the call should be? Just want to know what is the right call, if this happens again.

Does anyone know who makes a bore "snake" for a .45 Long Colt for a rifle? Everyone I've seen says it's for pistol, too short for rifle. Would one for a .410 shotgun work? Thanks

Howdy All, What do you think is the best Rifle, Pistols, and shotgun for SASS and WHYYY? This is your opportunity to brag on your gear, your gunsmith, your good deals etc. For the sake of example I will be using my Ruger New Vaqueros. Categories: 1. Out of the box ready to use. Example: Out of the box my Ruger New Vaqueros chambered in .357/38 felt great in my hands, shot straight, cycled flawlessly, and of course looked classy as heck. 2. Durability After having handled Old Vaqueros, Taylors, Cimerrons, Colts, Taurus, and even a few that i cant even remember the names the ruggedness of the ruger is awesome. Ive run full load 357 mags for silhouette, hunting hollow points, and of course Cowboy reloads. The only misfires I've had were from bad ammo. Not from the guns. I keep mine pretty clean. Solid wipe down after each match and a full Diss & Ass after every 300-400 rounds and doing so has no doubt extended their service life. 3. Cost Mine are the 5 1/2" Color case hardened NMV with consecutive serial #s. I got my hands on them two years ago for $1100 after shipping and they will no doubt out live me. 4. Upgrades/Parts/Gun Smithing The stock parts are pretty available. its when you start looking into specialty pieces like lowered hammers that you might start having trouble getting ahold of them. There are lots of very qualified smiths out there that can "slick them up, get them race ready or short stroke them" I had mine done by Shotgun Boogie and let me tell you I'll never go back. The short stroke and smoothness of the action is like nothing on any pistols I've ever handled. 5. Cost of Gun Smithing Welllll it wasn't cheap but when it comes to guns, condoms and toilet paper don't buy cheap or it will cost you more in then long run. 6. It makes me happy and feel cool Theres something intangible about having a pair of pistols that I have always wanted. The blued steel and color case hardening are beautiful. Heck I named my dog Ruger. Long story short, if its the gun you want and it makes happy then get it and shoot for the moon!! Looking forward to hearing everyone's preferences. Howdy, folks! I've got a question for y'all. I've only been shooting CAS for six months, and I'm wanting to get into B-Western. My main reason is that I already have the clothes for it; they're my everyday wear. What's the best rifle for B-Western that's NOT a Marlin? Fastest, most reliable, longest lasting? I'm a lefty, and every Marlin I've shot throws the hot brass right onto my right arm, which gets old fast. I was considering a Rossi M92, IF I can find one. Price is also a deciding factor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've read the rules and I'm still a little unclear on something. I'm using a Marlin 1894 model rifle in .45 Colt, Uberti Malo pistols also in .45 Colt and CZ external hammer 12 gauge coach sxs SG. I'm confused what class I can shoot in, more specifically do I have the wrong rifle? Do I have to have a 1866 or earlier model?

Got the jam on my 45 marlin. Aside from purchasing a new carrier, what's the latest suggestions on this problem? Does anyone make an improved carrier? Thanks!

Sorry for the simple question, but I was interested in B-movie and I was wondering... Why couldn't I use my Winchester 1873 rifle (besides the rules obviously)? It took me a couple of years to save the money for what I needed to compete...I really don't want to buy another rifle, that's a big expense for me. Thanks (c:

Hello all, I am looking at DD's Big Lube molds for 45 Colt. I would be shooting these in a 1860 Henry chambered in 45 Colt, and loaded with BP or equivalent amount of subs. The PRS 250 bullet looks to be very popular, but I would like a lighter 200 grain bullet. The J/P 45-210 would be an obvious choice, but I found some mention that when seated to the crimp groove, the cartridge OAL is too short and will jam on a stock carrier. Anybody have any experience/advice with the lighter 45 Big Lube bullets in the repro toggle link rifles? Any favorites/recommendations much appreciated! Thanks!

Some clubs (and EOT) use a mule/horse stand to stage rifles and shotguns. The legs of the stand have indentions on the legs where the guns can be staged and re-staged. My '73 rifle will sit on most of those stands with the trigger guard on the outside of the legs. I recently shot at a club that had one of those stands, but when I set my rifle on it with the trigger guard outside the legs a club representative told me that the trigger guard had to be "covered" so the trigger guard had to be on or inside the leg. Other clubs just say staged on the mule. I have staged my rifle at EOT with the trigger guard outside the legs with no issues, but there are rules that address covering the trigger guard on staged guns, so I am not sure how that works with a mule/horse stand. Any insights?

I have a Taurus Thunderbolt Rifle with a feeding issue! It will cycle, feed, and fire twice, then the third round slips past the tab that holds the next round in the mag tube, and jams under the carrier! I need to release all rounds I have loaded from the front of the mag tube to get it cleared. Either is there a fix, or a modification for it, or a Guru that can work their magic on them? Its not my main match gun, but I want it to use on an occasion.

A friend and I are currently in the planning stages of putting together a cross-country horseback trip from Nashville to Southern California (www.villainsofnash.com). San Juan Capistrano to be exact...our goal is to donate at least 3 horses to Bethany's Gait (www.bethanysgait.org) a ranch that works with troubled youth and kids from broken homes. We plan on making the trek next April and have high hopes of filming a documentary about the trip, as well as a book deal after the fact about why people don't actually step out and follow their dreams. We are also planning a motorcycle trip back as the "flip-side" or view of the modern day cowboy. I'm trying to pass the word around and gain as much knowledge, understanding, sponsorship, and general wisdom on all things related to the trip...all of which is out of my current field of depth. Our goal is to carry a rifle, preferably a Winchester lever action...as well as a single shot revolving pistol apiece. I need to know much more about everything involved with those guns, as well as what kind of regulations/stipulations would ensue as far as carrying that sort thing across all states west of TN. I also, am trying to see what kind of response their might be from clubs, private sponsors and exchanges to donate either guns, ammunition, or raise support to pay for hunting licenses in each state we cross, as we will be camping and hunting and fishing to supply our food from what we can't have donated from the Jerky and Trail Mix companies we're currently pitching to. Regardless, I appreciate your time and would love to hear any feedback you migh have...stories of what you dreamt of being when you were young, what you've experienced in your pursuit of your dreams, gun knowledge, trail knowledge, and words of encouragement or questions are all more than welcome. Howdy from the great State of PA (yea, I know, but it's what pays the bills). I am a true newbie to the fun and am starting to collect the various things I need to bang & clang. Since I already had boots, hat, pants, vest, spurs, a 12 gage double barrel shotgun, and a nice pair of single action rugers (lived in Mississippi for eight years), all I really needed was a lever action rifle (the winchester I have is chambered in 30-30, great for deer, not so for Cowboy). I came across a new Winchester 73 and a new Henry Big Boy, both chambered in 38/357, the same caliber as my rugers. Any advise on which one people prefer? (the big boy is $300 less and looks real nice, but I have never had an issue with my Winchester) Sonoma Steve

I need to know what the ranch hands think about this. I am too crippled up to enjoy shooting much anymore. I still like the period clothes. I am thinking of bundling a new shooter package or a Smaller Caliber .357/.38 Package. I will still have my .44s and I am thinking of getting some .45 colt Cylinders for my Remington's should I decide to shoot a match. I am a Frontier Cartridge shooter. Here is what I think I will do. You tell me if it is the way to go. I will put up two Old Model Vaquero's in .357 5 1/2 inch Stainless. (Remember I shoot Black Powder). A Winchester Large Loop AE-94 in .357, a Side by Side Coach 12 with real external hammers, two holsters, and a 44" to 50" drop right side with a cross draw rig. Also four boxes of new factory .357 Black Powder Cowboy load cartridges, and two boxes of 12 gauge Factory Black Powder Cowboy Shot Shells. You bring the duds and you're ready to shoot your first match. The Six Guns were tuned and matched by Sassy Sue and Wes Flowers. Less than 1,000 rounds total fired through them. The stocks on the pistols are Faux Ivory. Now I am not posting this stuff for sale at this time or here in the Saloon. I am asking what you think about the deal. I may not do it at all as I am not one to sell off guns for any reason, but times are getting a little tough and I am giving it some real thought. Right now they are not eating anything and my fixed income is .... well fixed.
