There is a pump "Lightning" rifle, for sale on-line, imported by American Western Arms, who may be out of business now. I sort of remember that brand, from several years ago. I am thinking that particular brand, of "Lightning" pump rifle, had some problems, and seems like the folks on here did not think too highly of that particular model. Perhaps quality issues? Does anyone remember anything about this? I figure some of the Pards on here, had one, or knew someone who did. I remember some of those brands of "Lightning" pump rifles, when they started to come on the scene, had some quality control problems, and a lot of griping about it, on the Wire, from those that bought one. I know the now defunct U.S. Firearms, made one, as did Taurus, and some others, as well. I think Pedersoli still makes one, and I see one, every now and again. Dixie still lists them, but are out of stock, last time I looked. I am NOT thinking of buying this rifle, just wondering if anyone had any experience with the American Western Arms import of this model. Thanks. W.K.

I know goex got bought/acquired in February, but I cant say that I remember seeing any goex drop on the usual sites anytime recently. Am I terribly late to the party in that they for sure 100% won't be making anymore goex? Or is the company still just on an extended hiatus until further notice? -
A friend of mine has a Pietta 1851 Navy cap & ball revolver. I have an Uberti 1851 cap & ball revolver. I was over at his house, and had my Uberti with me, and he had the Pietta out as well. I had given him a set of slick-shot cones (nipples), to put on his Pietta. I got to looking at them, and placed my Uberti over the Pietta. The grip frame, near the bottom of the frame, is flared out more on the Pietta, than on the Uberti. Is the "flare", on the grip frame, just with this particular revolver, or is this "flair" common to 1851 Pietta's? I did not have my Uberti 1860 Army, with me, to compare it to his Pietta 1860 Army. I wonder if that model as a "flair" as well??? I never noticed it before, until I had the 1851's together, side by side. It is not all that evident, unless I have my Uberti there to compare. I wonder...which of the two is more accurate to the original '51 Colt Navy design???? Not having an original 1851 Colt, I can't make a comparison. I own two Pietta's. One is the Starr single action cap & ball revolver, and the other is a Remington New Model Army (erroneously called the "1858"). I have not noticed a flair on either of those models, and did checked them against my Uberti. I do have a "flair" on my Euroarms Rogers & Spencer revolver, but that is a whole different design, and not made by Pietta. W.K.

I'm no expert, but doesn't the .45 acp cartridge rattle around in the chamber because it is shorter then .45 colt? What changes exactly doe the conversion make? Thanks, BB

Does the Taylor's Uberti Smokewagon have the "3 click" retractable firing pin hammer, or the traditional "4 click" non-retractable firing pin hammer? Taylor's website doesn't say. Of course, I do have a spare traditional hammer, and trigger, to replace the retractable firing pin hammer setup, should I ever, mistakenly, buy one. So far, if I stick with the black-powder frame models, I don't have to worry about that. But the Smokewagon has the smokeless powder frame, and that is a concern. Thanks. W.K.

Has anyone purchased an Uberti 1875 "Remington" outlaw lately? I was wondering if it has the retractable firing pin installed on it, like the smokeless frame single action Uberti Colt clones do...or the standard hammer/firing pin? That information will determine if I purchase one myself, or not. Thanks. W.K.

This question may have been answered before, so I am sorry if it has, and I apologize. I can't find a thread that addresses it, so I will ask again. Have any of you Pards purchased an 1875 Uberti Remington, lately??? If so, does the hammer have the retractable firing pin on it, or the standard non-retractable firing pin? Howdy Pards, Going to be shooting in my first out of state competition at the Eas'dern Shore Roundup in Delaware. They are holding a Long Range Rifle side match (also my first). I was thinking about shooting my (1926-made) Winchester 1894 in .32 Win. Spl. As far as I can tell from the Shooters' Handbook, this is a legal firearm and caliber choice. Anyone have any comment/suggestion for me? If I can't use this rifle, I might have to buy a new gun...darn it.

Hi all, I have wanted to start CAS for a long time, but just cannot do it at this time in my life due to the cost (two revolvers, rifle, shotgun, leather, cart, the fact that I do not have enough spare time to reload). I do, however enjoy watching and admire the skill that a lot of y 'all have. I have been curious for a while about a couple of things. 1. Why are there no events for pistols only, or one pistol one rifle? That way it would be easier for new shooters to get in the game. 2. Can you use your guns for things other than CAS? I have wondered if the extent to which some guns are modified makes them less reliable for full power loads/farm or small game hunting type use. 3. Is there somewhere to look for someone selling an entire kit all at once? Maybe that could lower the cost of entry. I am not trying to come across as critical at all, I have just wondered these things for a while and finally decided to join the forum so I could ask. Thanks for your time!!!

Seems to me, we took edge hits more seriously in the past. When an edge hit was called by a Spotter, the Spotter would identify where the edge hit occurred on the target. All the Spotters (& sometimes the TO) would go down range an examine the identified location and make a considered judgement. Today, I observe a range of actions, in addition. The other Spotters just say OK, one of the other Spotters will go down range while the other refuses to get off their stool, the Spotter who called the edge hit cannot identify where the edge hit occurred before going down range, the TO refuses to consider an edge hit, as too many rounds have hit the target, etc. Question: Should we stop discussion among the Spotters (on edge hits or anything) and simply ask the Spotters to call what the saw, accepting what they say first ? Is this something the TG’s of ROC should discuss ?

The Texan Rangers put on a fantastic shoot and I know they all worked hard to pull this off. Stages, awards, banquet, friendly club members, all over the top good. Anyone who has never made this shoot at Comanche rialto Days are missing out on one of top CAS in the U.S. of A. My Posse Marshall was Reckon, he is always one of the best there is as P.M. and Belle K. and all the Reckon Crew are much fun to shoot with. We also had one great posse. Well, here goes. What would you do is my question for following comment ? If I made one pile of the over than 50 buckles as well as many other awards having won then next to this pile of buckles and such I would put just the Spirit of the Game award from Texas State Shoot. Then I'm given a choice (crosscut, you have to pick one of these but you can't have both).... I would choose the Spirit of the Game Honor. This award/honor really meant that much to me. I have never teared up when receiving a buckle. ...crosscut hardy

Has anyone replaced the extractor on an 1866? What should I be looking ? I removed old extractor to clean under it. The drift pin needs to be replaced. So I ordered both new from VTI.

Howdy, I have a new Uberti, El Patron Competition. When I purchased it I got a lifetime warranties added on. The warranty covers manufacturing defects related problems. The gun shoots left a good bit, two or three inches at nine yards. The warranties do not cover accuracy problems. My groups are good but out left. I have two Smoke Wagons and both shoot P.O.A. I do not believe it is me shooting left. I can shoot all three at the same session and only the El Patron shoots left. My question is,is this an accuracy problem or a manufacturing problem/defect? P.S. The Smoke Wagons are much smoother than the El Patron. Molasses Mike

I recently bought a Colt with a BP frame, with the base pin screw screw tightened down there's a tiny bit of back and forth play in the base pin. It shoots fine and the base pin can't be pulled out. The screw is kind of boogerd up so I am going to get a new screw but do you think I need a new base pin too? It seems okay, not worn real bad to my eye anyway. Whad'ya think???? Thanks, Rye

i recently purchased a beautiful preowned Pedisoli Sharps 45-70 and am having trouble with the trigger. According to the manual, the firing trigger should never be less than 3 lbs. after setting the set trigger. I have backed the trigger adjustment screw out as far as it will go without falling out and the trigger continues to be 1 lb or less and is almost impossible to fire because you can barely touch the trigger and it fires with almost no pressure. Any suggestions?

I'm trying to figure out aftermarket grip options for a Ruger Single Six birdshead in .32 H&R Mag. I'm looking at Eagle's gunfighter grips, having handled them in the past on a plowhandled Vaquero. I emailed Eagle to ask if they had gunfighter grips for the Single Six birdshead and their answer was sort of vague- simply that their gunfighter grips would fit Ruger guns. So, does anyone know if Eagle's grips will fit this gun? Is the grip frame the same as the one for the birdshead Vaquero (I don't have one for comparison...), or are they sized differently?

Slick--or one of you that knows--what length should be the magazine tube spring be cut? I believe Slick told me at Winter Range to leave about 3" sticking out, but would like to confirm before I cut it. Thanks. Cass

Merry Christmas Pards---- Posted this on another forum and after 48 views---got no replys. Somebody must have an opinion I shoot 200gr. 45LC in 4 5/8 Vaqueros & Marlin 1894-- I've managed to get a bottle of the following powders: 231 ( I also have 2 3/4 lbs. of 20 year old 231 ) Universal Clays ( just found that in the back of a shelf behind rifle powder at the local shop ) Titegroup The question is which to use first I also just found 4#'s of 700-x, which I've been using for 2 years for shotshells, figure I'll save the 700-x just for that purpose as it will last me abt. 5 years at my current rate of consumption. I've been a member since I was 2 and now I'm about to be 21. This society is all I grew up with for 11 years but I haven't been active in it since 2004. My membership is going to expire soon and I don't know if I should renew it, Pistol Girl was my whole identity growing up and I'm fearful to losing it and I don't know if I should let it go. If I could, I'd buy a lifetime membership and never have to worry about it ever again but I could never afford it. I want to know what you members think. Advice?

Does anyone have a Mossberg Model 73 single shot .410 or Western Field 17B that would be willing to trace me a pattern of the stock with maybe some pics and measurements. Gonna try to make one from scratch for my barrel, but a template would sure make it easier.

CFE, very fine ball powder. XL650 Powder charging station appears to be dumping a little bit of powder outside the case. After 100 rounds powder is all over the press. Is this normal?

Is there any way I can lighten the spring on the locking release lever on the Spartan side by side cocking hammer shotgun? I have funky thumbs and it's messing with my game.
