I have to give a shout out to two men who have skills beyond measure. Yul Loose and Double Diamond I was recently gifted an amazingly breathtaking gun cart that was the product of these two men’s skills. I will let the pictures speak for themselves as I give huge thanks to the splendid work of these two craftsmen that I have the honor of calling my friends and pards. Showing off a spectacular knife that my son made for me. Dylan Fletcher of FletcherKnives. He does lots of UTube & Instagram stuff. Making knives is how he makes his living. He's too busy making a living to make me a sheath, even though he does great work. And, he really prefers to spend his time on the knives, instead of sheaths. So, I wanna get one made so I can show this knife off from time-to-time. This baby is about 18 inches long & weighs 2 pounds. Those who know knives will appreciate the file work. I'll be at the Tennessee State Championship at Wartrace, Southeast Regional at Cavern Cove, & then Dark Days in Ft. White & the Fla State Championship in Tavares, Florida. I can show the knife to potential sheathmakers at those matches. Who do you recommend for a sheath to do this knife justice?

1860 Henry Modification A leather lace-on “heat shield” wrap around the barrel and magazine tube of the 1860 Henry rifle has been approved by the Range Operations Committee. The proposed modification is a reasonable solution to a well-known safety concern regarding the use of the 1860 Henry rifle in SASS competition. As many shooters choosing to use that model also shoot in Black Powder categories, the lack of a forearm can be problematic as the barrel heats up. That can lead to possible safety issues in maintaining control of the firearm while shooting. Advising the use of a glove while shooting one discounts the fact that a glove can be a hindrance when shooting revolvers.

When I first started cas in ‘09, I just went out and bought stuff. In 2011 I got a pair of Walkers. Over the years of on and off shooting I struggled with holsters that were either too big or to small for the guns I like to play with. I have all the revolvers I want (I think) and finally ordered my dream leather the end of last summer. It showed up this week. Looks like I’m short one gun. When you shoot Josey Wales every chance you get, one needs options.

I'm not a cowboy action shooter, but would really figure you all are the experts for my question. I bought an old ruger blackhawk 357 five and half inch barrel, for my son last year. I want to get him a decent western style leather belt and holster for it. He is sixteen, and obviously as he continues to grow, this rig May not last beyond a few years for him. So that in mind, I don't want cheap costume crap, but would like something nice that won't exceed two hundred all combined. What would be your recommendations? Thank you for your help

Sitting here enjoying the snow pile up outside got me thinking. Scary I know. Around here we pretty much shut down for winter. By request from a few guys at work that will be trying sass this year.I have been teaching a few classes at our farm. We put up a small range last fall and the previous owners had turned a grainary into a guest house. So I use that as a class room. So far it's turned out better than I expected it to. Anyway I was thinking of turning this into a regular thing every winter if I have enough interest. So if you had a choice what would you like to see taught? I was thinking maybe ro classes, maybe get a few local leather to do a class on proper care and fit of a rig. Or a demonstration on cleaning/ breaking down a revolver/ rifle/ shotgun. Loading classes? Anyway What does the combined knowledge of the sass crowd think. Good idea or waste of time.

After spending most of the week driving fast cars and motorcycles, dining with super models, and wearing the finest clothes, you realize it's Friday and you have a cowboy shoot this weekend. So you say, "Genie, for my last wish, I want the coolest double gun rig that will blow the socks off my pards at the match." So where would the Genie go?

Besides Tandy Leather Co., who is a good source for craft leather, specifically for make gun holsters. I don't need a whole or probably even a half a hide. What's a good online source? THANKS

Looking for information on retail stuff to girly up a gun with. I know I can get Pink Grips from Eagle Grips. Where can I get pink/girly furniture for a 73','92, '97, or double barrel? Pink leather stuff? Recoil pads? Just maybe, if I can get some girl guns in the house I can talk the Wife or one of my daughters into shooting with me. That way I'm not a pariah every time I want to go shoot!

I'm just getting into CAS and am looking forwared to collecting all the guns and gear I'll need. I intend to take a good long time in chosing my rig but at the same time I want to be able to carry my .45 and not wory about water or dirt damaging my shiny leather. Hiking in the Oregon Northwest can be a risky past time made even more dangerous with territorial elk, coyotes which can and do attack/injure people, and other hungry beasties and there are few critters that can't be put down or scared off with a .45 cal, half ounce led slug. So would anoyone know of a good commercially made holster for a SAA clone that wont brake the bank? UPDATE: I'm looking at "Western Express" holsters on amazon, anyone have experance with these, their simple and under fifty bucks. Again i'm just looking for a something to hold my gun and draw smooth, holstering doesn't have to be perfect or even smooth.

Good day, I am brand new here and am just getting into the sport. I am looking to purchase my first gun belt and holster and was wondering if any of you have had experience with Cochise Leather in AZ. How would you rate their quality and durability? Or what suggestions may you have for me? As I said, I'm new, ignorant and inexperienced in this area and I'm looking for any tips you may have. Thank you. I’m looking to buy new/better leather so I want to double check my options. I like the feel and position of the drop holsters, but want the option to shoot in as many categories as possible with one purchase so let me see if I’ve got this right. Drop holsters may be worn in any category EXCEPT CLASSIC COWBOY/COWGIRL. Drop Holsters MUST be worn in “B” WESTERN. Drop or Standard Holsters may be worn in any other category. What say you? Tree

Hi there fellow Sass members. I am very interested in a shotgun belt I tried out this summer and that is used in competition currently but am concerned about whether the material being used for the shotgun shell loops is Sass approved. The loops are made from some form of elastic that is stretchy. I looked up the sass rules on this and it seems it may not be yet I wonder why anyone would market them if they are not legal. Help! Here is my problem: I have a TTN hammered shotgun that I have invested a lot of $$ in widening the chambers, putting gold on the extractor, etc., but the grip on the stock behind the lever that opens the gun has split badly-twice. I have had it repaired again but to strengthen it and avoid it splitting again I want to wrap it in rawhide. Now this is right where my hand grips the shotgun. I have studied the Shooters Handbook and learned that "Grips or stocks of simulated or natural materials are acceptable provided they are not customized to constitute a “target” grip or stock. That is, they must be of the same basic shape as grips or stocks found on original firearms.", "Checkering, carving, or laser engraving is allowed on forestocks, buttstocks, and revolver grips.", "A permanently fitted, nonadjustable, lace on, or slip on recoil pad is allowed on the buttstock of rifles and shotguns.", and "A piece of leather or similar natural material may be attached to the buttplate or butt stock." But what I am planning to do is to attach leather to the grip, not the buttstock, where my gun hand and trigger finger are. I expect the leather to be pulled tight around the grip behind the trigger guard and not change the shape of the grip, but it will be leather instead of wood there. I would prefer not to change the stock--replacement stocks are hard to find, so I want to be sure that if I do this I am not illegally enhancing the firearm by putting leather on the grip. If I can't do this I guess I can use it till it breaks , then try to find a replacement stock. What do you think?
