Hello all, I am a new member and I am just getting into the SASS scene. I am going to be starting with a solid lever action platform and would like some opinions from the experts here... Below are some concerns / questions I would like to narrow down. 1. New or Old. I have about $1500 to spend on the rifle and then probably another $500 or so (could be stretched for the right rifle) saved for customization. I also would like something I am very proud of and that will hold or increase in value over time. I am leaning to either a Winchester 1873 or 1892 original or one of the sleek new custom models that come pre-configured for SASS. 2. Cartridge Size. I need a round that will be affordable to shoot thousands of rounds from and I would prefer the easier reload of a non-tapered round. This obviously leads me to the newer production SASS platforms in .45, .357, etc but which is preferred... Also, if you were to go with the classic Winchester which size would you search out for and spend more $'s on the rifle if you could find it in. 3. Barrel Length. New and Old, what is the most common and preferred barrel length and type (octagonal or round) 4. Anything else I should consider and am I way off base from the beginning with what I am looking for? Thanks again, this should be fun I am selling my TRICKED out Saiga 12 to pickup my SASS rifle so it's out with the new in with the OLD :-)... Travis M. Semper Fi and safe return to all my brothers and sisters in harms way...
