Great Nor'Easter SASS North East regional UPDATE Howdy all, Gittin” down to the deadline fer applications to The Great Nor’easter. The cutoff date is the 7th of July. The Nor’easter crew have been busier than a bunch of railroad engineers during the buildin’ of the Union Pacific. Purdy soon some of them cowboys will be settin’ up camp at the range and some of the other folk will be checkin’ into the fine boarding houses and rooms in the area. Ya can find a list of them nice places on the website. I’m wonderin’’ if y’all are aware that Saturday, July 22nd is the National Day of The Cowboy. We’d kinda like to do somethin’ special that day to honor all those cowpokes that have gone up yonder to that big shootin’ competition in the sky. The one where all yer bullets hit the targets and none of yer guns malfunction. Anyways, we’d like to remember all them folks, so if ya have someone yer missin’, send their name along ahead of time to Preacher at Heath53@cox.net and we’ll include it in the remembrance. Another thing we’ve been talkin’ ‘bout is havin’ a potluck meet ‘n greet on Thursday evening. So bring sumpin’ to share with the other folk. A casserole, one pot dish, meat, salad, dessert, or sumpin’ that ya makes real tasty an’ we’ll all do likewise. (Ya don’t have to make enuff fer an army or anything, cuz we’ll all be bringin’ stuff.) It’ll give us all some time to kick back a bit afor’ the shootin’ starts and gets caught up on our conversin’. That don’t mean we’ll be spreadin’ gossip, mind ya, we all live by the cowboy code, right? After all, wise men talk about ideas, ordinary men talk about things, only fools talk about each other. Now, I’ve heard some folks been bellyachin’ ‘bout the weather and I know we’ve had all kinds in the past. Anywheres from bein’ hotter ‘n hells hinges or so dry the rattlers were carrin’ canteens. We even had hail chuckin’ gullywashers blowing up a thundergust wheres one cowpoke got hisself struck by lightnin’ back along. But we’s all hopin’ it‘ll turn out okay this year so just never you mind about the weather. If’n ya ain’t already sent in yer application, hurry it up cuz the 2017 Great Nor’easter’s gonna spring up and be gone faster than a mining town during the gold rush, and ya ain’t gonna wanna miss all the fun. So, don’t make us raise a posse to find ya! See ya’ll there, Nanny Oakley Never pass anyone on the trail without saying "Howdy"

UPDATE Get ready to head west at the 2017 Northeast Regional. July 20,21,22,23, Things are really comin’ together. Shooter’s gifts are in. Buckles are in. Stages are written. Did ya know when folks began Headin’ West, that firewood was as scarce as hen’s teeth out on the prairie, so camp cooks would use cowchips to make a fire. One old range cook used his hat for a bellows and claimed that he "wore out three good hats in one season trying to get the damned things to burn. But we won’t have to worry none about that, cuz we got the boy scouts makin’ up some tasty grub for our breakfast and lunch. Rumor has it that they will be doing some fancy cookin’ like Teriyaki chicken tenders, besides the hotdogs and hamburgers. Them scouts are even gonna have some lighter fare like fresh fruit cups and salad so as we don’t get to heated up or too full up before shootin’ in the afternoon. I reckon they won’t need no stinkin’ cowchips for that! Registrations are comin’ in almost fast as a California gold rush claims. Did ya know that a nickname for prospectors was forty-niners? I’ve met some forty-niners out shootin’...nice folk. Theys the reason that the old west saloons would put sawdust on the floor. When them prospectors came in to whet their whistles, some of that there gold dust would fall off of ‘em onto the floor. So the owner of the saloon would put down the saw dust...and sweep up the gold dust. Pretty slick, huh? Anyway, back to the Nor’easter. There’s gonna be some fun things goin’ on Thursday, including a Wild Bunch mini match, a plainsman mini match and a whole lot of other side events like speed pistol, long range shootin’ and such. I heard tell of a costume contest, so make sure ya got ya cowboy and cowgirl duds all ready and don’t forget your fancy duds too, for the Saturday night banquet. Texas Roadhouse is comin’ to the range with dinner and you can BYOB to go with it if you like. Just make sure ya don’t start imbibing fore the guns is all put away. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the boy scouts will be pickin’ up all the brass during the match. And this Main Match is gonna be fun. So get those registrations out by Pony Express if ya have to, because the cutoff dates for gettin’ awards is coming up quick and ya don’t wanna miss out and the average delivery time for Pony Express is 10 days. Of course, if ya don’t care about a fancy award, you can roll on in with the stagecoaches at the last minute and we’ll likely let ya shoot. But yer gonna be green with envy that ya didn’t get one of them shiny buckles or fancy awards. There’s still some room in the hotel and a few good spots fer camping, so don’t wait ‘til it turns into a land rush to let us know yer coming. Well, that’s just some of what’s happening, so keep yer ear to the ground for more updates. And for some of you who haven’t shot the regional before just a little lighthearted piece of advice: “Don't worry about bitin’ off more than you can chew. Your mouth is probably a whole lot bigger'n you think” Catch ya next time, Nanny Oakley
