  1. I have a Cordura canvas chest holster that fits a Thompson Center 14 inch barrel w/scope attached. This is a very comfortable carry mode, for a quite heavy, scoped, pistol. A 7-1/2 inch Blackhawk or Vaquero would fit nicely in the model made for a non-scoped T.C. handgun, with approx. 3 inches to spare. (The differernce in actions would take up the additional length).

It is open at the bottom, but that could easily be sewn shut, and has a snap open retaining strap at the top. Easily adapted to a Single action Revolver, particularly the longer barreled ones.

Not to dispute Trailriders assessment of chest holsters, as that's his personal opinion, but my experience with my chest holster is exactly opposite of what he has expressed. I really like it. I have carried a 14 inch 6.5 mm TCU barreled Contender w/ a 2-1/2 to 7 powered Burris LER scope for many a mile in it, and have found it very manageable for the long barreled Contender.

  2. Replies by those really in the know are priceless. It doesn't take long to ferret out who those pard's are and you listen closely when they speak. There's not a question I can think of that hasn't been covered at some point in time, here on the wire.

I also wish to thank those who share their knowledge with us, and do so with facts, not hearsay.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. RBK

  3. I also worked on loading yesterday, but in my heated shop. Didn't take much heat, but it was shirt sleeve temp in there. Very comfortable. Was working on some Pistol loads for Bowling Pin matches. Heavy bullets at 850 FPS plus velocity. Rather slow process as is the nature of loading very heavy for caliber bullets. However, ammo consumption is low, so it doesn't require large volumes of ammo to keep ahead of requirements.

I'm good on CAS ammo for several months, (except Shot Shells), but that won't take long to remedy. Seldom takes more than a box per match, and I can load a flat in less than 2 hours.

At my age, I worry more about decent weather in which to do the shooting. Keeping up with ammo requirements is no problem, but cold weather will keep me in the house. Can't chance getting sick because of being out in cold weather. Just the way it is.

  4. I think an inexpensive pin showing the Club Name and the competitors Alias is a nice touch. Don't need a new one for every shoot, but recognition of participation at that Club is a nice touch. Those pins, (similar to the cheap political campaign pins), can be made at the club as needed, and cost is very little. Something that even the small Clubs can easily afford.

  5. My appreciation for single triggers probably is due to my many years of shooting Skeet. Shooting single trigger O/U shotguns for over 30 years would seem to have it's effects on a persons likes. To me it's the most natural way of doing it, and I really do not like double triggers, although I can handle them when necessary.

  6. I have a TTN 97 Winchester 12 ga clone for sale. The gun is very clean and has only very minor handling marks on the wood. Bluing is near perfect. Runs very smooth.

I purchased the gun for WB shooting, which I never really got into, and has been a safe queen for several years. Nice gun that needs a new home where it will be used.

First $450, plus actual shipping, (and ins. if desired), gets it. Shipping cost will be determined when destination is known. F to F in the Houston area, (no shipping), is OK. Signed FFL req. if shipped out of state.

Pictures can be e-mailed if desired, but gun is as described. I have no luck posting pictures on the website.

  7. Normally, the regular monthly's are shot the first full weekend of the month. The shoot on the 31st of Dec. is really a make up for the missed Dec shoot that was canceled due to torrential rains. I will assume the January 2017 match would be held on the regular schedule, which would be Jan. 7 and 8. The Saturday match being the biggest.

Contact Numbers are on the website, where you can verify those dates. Usually answered in just a few minutes.

  8. It was just announced that Thunder River Renegades will be shooting a regular match on Dec. 31 st.. Great Club and super targets. Location is just north of Magnolia Texas. About 45 or so miles north of Houston. Easy to get to. Driving instructions and map on website.

  9. I would heartily suggest that you get your hands on a copy of Ken Waters "Pet Loads". I have enjoyed a good many successes using his book for the statistics.

One I particularly remember was a 338 Win Mag, that following his recommendations resulted in an extremely accurate load at Factory specified velocity. 6 rounds brought it in to a load that reached my velocity requirement and resulted in 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. Just don't get any better than that, particularly with larger caliber Rifles.

  10. I'm with Noz! I reload everything I shoot, regardless of caliber. I have owned rifles for 20 to 30 years and longer, that have never seen a factory round.

The economics are simply not there, and reloading gives me the exact loads I want. With the exception of 22 Rim Fire, I'll continue to reload as long as I continue to shoot.

  11. Said it before, and I'll repeat it one more time. If you FINAL crimp with a Redding Profile Crimp die, you can throw those case gauges away. I have never seen the reloaded round that wouldn't chamber in ANY gun, after being run through that die. Speaking strictly of straight sided pistol cases here. OAL is set with a caliper, and the seating die adjusted accordingly.

  12. I think from all the reasons that Widder mentioned, you need to just send the complete rifle to Boomstick. That bolt will have to be refitted to the receiver after it's welded and re-machined. Can't do that if the gun isn't in his hands.

  13. All my CAS loads are exactly the same. Same local bullet maker, Clays powder and Federal primers. Loads are proven and well tested, so there is NEVER any change. SO, who needs any stinkin' labels!!!!

Dated? Why? Loads will be good for years, and I usually use up my current loaded batches in less than a year. There simply is no need to label anything. All load data is kept in my reference book, to keep it handy if needed.

  14. I'll agree with Lumpy this time in using Unique as a propellant. I had a 92 Winchester in 44-40 (Built in 94), that I loaded for, for several years. Unique was always a great performer in that gun. I gave the gun to my Daughter a few years back, as it originally belonged to Her Great, Great Grandfather. She used the rifle in CAS shooting at Cowtown in Arizona.

Rooster Ron Wayne has stated the best way to load them in his post above. Load with standard dies, but do not crimp with that die set. Get a Lee Factory Crimp die and crimp separately. You will never crush a case doing it that way.
