What is this "practice" of which you speak??
Every Friday night, my possee gets together and shoots three stages on the clock.

Just got mine in at FFL. Can't shoot it for 10 days. What does it feed? Any special .38 brand?
I use Georgia Arms reload 38 Special and they feed fine

Bought a new 1873 in 357. Was intending to put a super short stroke in but noticed some are going back to the 3rd gen. So I was wondering why and what the opinions were of those who use both. My other rifle has a 3rd gen and I have had no problems.
I really like Longhunter's set-up!

My new Saddle Rifle from Longhunter came today - what a nice gun!! It is a Uberti 1873 with a 18" barrel, mine is .357. As luck would have it, my possee practices on Friday nights, so it was hours old when I shot it. All three stages clean with times 8-10 seconds faster than normal! No wonder he is such a highly regarded gunsmith!

I have two rifles (73 & 66) that have Cody's work - I think he is the best. As for football, I was born a little way from you - in Southbend. My Dad was playing at a little college there - Notre Dame.

what is a mechanical trigger conversion?

The trigger no longer requires that a shot be fired to reset to fire the second shot. This can be important, especially for some one who shoots without sholdering the gun - not enough recoil to reset the trigger.

My First time shooting was with my granddad .
We shot a Winchester 9422 leaver action Rifle .
And we shot a Ruger single six flat gate .22
I have been a single action man my hole life .
The First hand gun I ever bought brand New was a Ruger Supper BlackHawk 44 mag .
My Wife and my self got our taxes back and I went down to the local gun shop and bought a new Supper BlackHawk 44 mag.
WOW that was a long time ago .
When Deuce Stevens first introduced me to Cowboy action shooting a few years ago.
I was hooked .
He told me I needed two single action hand guns , a leaver action Rifle ,and a Double barrel shotgun,
he said you need to reload ammo and have holsters.
I said have all that and I roll my own .
I made my a gun cart that weekend and was shooting the next weekend .
If it was not for my Granddad and Deuce Stevens I would never made it here .
Thank you Granddad for helping me to love single action guns .

Marlin 39A. It had a reciever sight which flipped between a Buckhorn and a Peep. What a thrill. I was 11 trs old and was hooked on shooting ever since!

Awwww, crap! It was supposed to say, "WHAT was the first firearm you ever bought?".
I've got a glitch with this keyboard that jumps the cursor all over the page and backs up the cursor on it's own. I didn't find the goof until it was all posted.
The very first one I bought was a .22 High Standard Supermatic with half of the front blade gone.
I bought it to carry along when checking traps before and after school. I paid $35 cash and got a Hunter leather holster for it too.
I had it with me all through high school (literally). I recollect I traded it for a S&W M29 8-3/8" in blue(?) after a few years.

Ruger Super Single Six Convertible, which unfortunately I no longer have.

I use Trail Boss since it takes up more space in the case. Thia ia benificial when loading light for pistol shooting. Be careful not to go too light. You're just looking for shootable - not to absolutely eliminate recoil.

Michigan-Colt McCallister-97's, lever guns, etc.
S. Indiana-Manatee-Lever guns, sights, etc.
NE Indiana-Montana Longhair-does about everything
At one time or another I've had all these pards work on, or set up a gun for me and all with good results. By the way these are all top notch shooters as well.

Hey Karl. How you doin'? I have used Cody Conagher at the Cowboy Shop in WV for 2 rifles and an 1897 shotgun and have always been pleased with his work. His rifle work is quite reasonable compared to others, since rather than replacing parts like the carrier, he machines the one you have. Maybe I'll see you at Ruskin this month. Slowpoke Joe
I had Widder do my Marlins with the angle feed and he has turned the process over to Slick McClade who I understand is doing a great job making Widdermatics down in Louisiana.
Let's add to this list to help those who are in need of some gun work.

Well my parents and wife finally got the bug. Good thing, but also presents some problems. For now we have enough miss matched rigs to go around but we are a little short on guns.
Do we try to all get on one posse and just keep swapping guns or go and hope someone takes pitty on us and helps by loaning some? I have four revolvers two matching two not. Two shotguns, well actually three but after talking it through and trying them out nobody really cares to shoot the 97. I prefer a sxs and they prefer my 87. So the 97 will be traded or sold to purchase other guns. I only have one carbine so that's. Where it gets tricky. Do I try for another rifle so then we could shoot two posses as long as nothing breaks. Or should we try to get everyone a set of revolvers first and keep sharing the long guns?
I know a lot of people say wait and buy then cry once but realistically it would be years before I can afford slicked up guns and none of us really want to shoot fast. Its a family outing for us.
Any advice would be helpfull especially from those who have gone through this.

If the "97 is in good shape, don't be in a hurry to sell it. I too preferred a doulbe gun or '87, then I shot a "97. Sold the others and shoot a '97. Slowpoke Joe

No, never heard of the father thing. i have the knife, but the wrong serial#. I've been searching for 2o years to find the match. Actually the matching knife is quite a good one
Billy, this is what I have read. The production of the CCH rifle was 19,999, but they only made 5,000 knifes. My rifle has a serial number in the 9,000s. I guess that means there is no matching serial number knife? There are also some beautiful Souix "artifacts" that were made to go along with this rifle. SPJ

I've got the same rifle. Now try to find the matching knife with the same serial number. And can it be used in SASS events?
Your are a man after my own heart! There are many who say it should never be used, since it lowers the value. They made 20,000 of them! They are never going to have great value. I do intend to shoot it. I've heard that some matches have long range side matches for rifle calibers, but have never been to one. Maybe someone else could answer. BTW have you ever heard of these comming with a feather in the box?

After a wait of several years, I finally got a 1983 Winchester Chief Crazy Horse Commemorative! It's just beautiful - new in the bos unfired with the hang tag still on it. Box is 90% and has all the books. I'll die still owng this one!

I have a winchester 94ae and looking at getting a 2nd rifle Ive heard bad and good things about the rossi 92 are than good for cas??

Actually, that has always been my experience. To make matters worse, I went to the same branch I have always used! The Postmaster was very nice about it, even going so far as to show me the handbook which clearly states that both the sender and the receiver must be FFL holders. I was disturbed by the change, but he assured me that this has been the policy for years. I know that I never had a problem before this!

I went to the post office to ship a shotgun to a well known gunsmith for action work. They would not do it because I'm not an FFL holder! I told them that I've shipped long guns through the PO a thousand times,,,,,, well maybe 8 or 10, and never had a problem. They showed me the law in the PO's hand book and, sure enough, it stated that BOTH parties have to be FFL holders! Went to UPS and had no problem.
