While catching up with the vehicle in question, the officer observed multiple vehicle code violations consistent with impairment. After pulling the vehicle over, the officer conducted an investigation that ultimately resulted in the driver being placed under arrest for driving under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs. At the request of the suspect, the suspect’s mother was contacted to respond out to the scene and retrieve his dog and his vehicle – and was specifically asked over the phone if she herself had been drinking. The suspect’s mother said she had not. Once the suspect’s mother arrived on scene, officers observed her to have multiple signs of intoxication – leading to a separate DUI investigation that ultimately resulted in the suspect’s mother’s arrest as well. The suspect’s mother went on to produce a .18% BAC (blood alcohol content) chemical test result, while her son refused a chemical test but eventually had his blood drawn pursuant to a warrant. Both were booked into the Sonoma County jail. This is another great example of how utilizing ride share services, planning ahead, or just not making the decision to get behind the wheel after drinking would have prevented all of this. #cotati #cotatipolice #madd 1 Quote
Alpo Posted Saturday at 03:16 PM Posted Saturday at 03:16 PM I'm a little puzzled by the arrest of the mother. The cops called Mama to come out to the scene and pick up the driver's dog and car. Mama could not have driven herself to the scene, if she was planning on driving her son's car home. So she must have caught a ride / took an Uber / took a bus - someone else brought her there. So what did they do? Stand there and watch her stagger around, and then wait till she got behind the wheel so they can bust her for DUI? "Another collar for tonight! Yay me!!" 1 Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted Saturday at 03:39 PM Author Posted Saturday at 03:39 PM Yep. They couldn't prevent her from getting into the car. But once she put the key in the ignition, or pushed the Start button, she was driving. Probably also so little bit of "She told us she's sober as a WCTU marcher, but obviously drunk as a lord! We'll just let her hang herself. " Stupid Games get Stupid Prizes 1 Quote

Sure she could have. She needed to take the dog and one car home first, then come back for the other. And decide if she would post bail for her son. So she drives up, looks smashed, and earns a stay in the adjacent cell. 1 Quote
Lawdog Posted Saturday at 04:00 PM Posted Saturday at 04:00 PM Happens more than you would think. Trying to save an arrestee money on a tow, unless the offense requires a mandatory impound, I’ve allowed them to call someone to get the car. But they have to be there within 10-15 minutes. Many times the person would show up with a suspended license, warrants on file, etc. 1 2 Quote
