If you want to cure anxiety instill self confidence.

Great looking kids!

OHMYGOD!!!

Children with knives and fire and guns.  Working with dangerous tools and climbing trees and walking to school more than a block from home.  Riding bikes for miles on dangerous public roads and playing on swings, jungle gyms, and on hard surfaced play grounds.  Swimming in lakes, ponds, and irrigation canals.

Their parents should be jailed and the children put into group homes where they won't be endangered.

Or maybe we should take the do-gooders, woosies and wimps out of the equation and encourage these things that many of us survived and thrived on.

How did we ever grow up and live to older ages with all we were doing as kids?

Quite nicely, thank you.

You forgot, drinking from the garden hose and go-karts with no brakes! 🤠

That's a myth! They had brakes. That 2x4 spiked to the left side.  You pulled up on it and the drag on the ground slowed you.

That's exactly how ours worked! Fences stopped us on occasion too!

I've always liked drinking from a hose. I think the earwigs inside added to the flavor!

Playing baseball without helmets!!

Playing tackle football in the back yard with nothing more on than jeans and a T-shirt!

Riding a sled down the iced over street, downhill to the pond that froze over and playing hockey on that pond,  again, without a helmet or pads or even much adult supervision!!

OH! And that rope swing out over the swimming hole from a rock on the bank that was ten feet high!

Don’t forget crawling into a used truck tire and letting your buddies roll you down a big hill!!

It’s a wonder that the human race has survived!!

Trampoline parks, walking across the golf course to walk in the woods, rock climbing up one of the local canyons and not telling anyone where you were going, scaling buildings to put up antennas for crystal radios, fishing alone in The West Fields, making and riding "scooters" from boxes and boards and roller skates, same for "soap box" racing cars with whatever wheels we could find, shooting B B guns and bows and arrows in the back yard, pogo sticks and home made stilts, mumbly peg, ice skating on the creeks and ponds in the area, and making match head guns out of bicycle spokes.  Throwing those things called "Jarts" or lawn darts?

How about inner tubing down endless snow covered slopes, sometimes with groups of other folks, all without of any real control.

Add some more.

Just thought of another that almost cost me an eye:  messing with a Bantam hen's chicks under a rose bush.  I was about six and ever since then I only deal with chickens if they are unhatched and/or cooked to my liking.  Those little critters are deadly for their size...or for almost any size.  I'd hate to meet an angry one that weighed 50 or 60 pounds

I had a scar about an inch to the right of the bridge of my nose for years.

Don’t forget about having to duck under the barbed wire fence at the bottom of the hill before you got to the maybe frozen over pond!

Years ago when science channels were actually worth watching, I watched one ethnographic program about an isolated, but reasonably modern,  town somewhere in Central or South America.  One scene that has stayed with me was a boy, maybe 5 or 6 years old, on the ground and using a big knife/small machete to help chop something for a meal.  His little sister wandered close to the board he was using as his cutting board.  He instantly stopped mid swing. Didn't look up from what heveas cutting, just was situationally aware.

What about hopped up mini bikes and those first little dirt bikes!!  Most of us didn’t wear helmets or protective gear and often rode ‘em in shorts and T-shirts with sneakers! Not even any eye protection!!

There was almost NO time in my early teens that I didn’t have a little road rash somewhere!!
