Cypress Sun Posted September 14 Posted September 14 The Rays have already clinched a playoff berth. They could clinch homefield if they play good for the final games of the season. However.....I don't feel that they have what it takes to win in the playoffs. Too many big errors at inopportune times and lack of discipline on the bases, both offensively and defensively, to go the distance. That said, I hope they do make it to the Series but I'm no holding my breath on it. 1 Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Well the Sox took the first one tonight. Non existent offense and lousy defense by the Guardians 🙁 1 Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted September 15 Author Posted September 15 And the Padres barely hung on to beat the Rockies. 1 Quote
Brock Posted September 15 Posted September 15 The Red Sox Ju;y surge was enough to put them into the discussion but I don't think they can go far. Quote

They probably are allotted a few tickets, but they have to pay for them, so they could definitely go! and they yea can afford it for sure! Good answer! Edited September 15 by Rye Miles #13621 1 Quote

Subdeacon Joe Posted September 16 Author Posted September 16 Padres managed to lise to the Rockies. They're right on the edge for a wildcard spot. 1 Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted September 16 Posted September 16 (edited) I’ll admit I’m confused with how these playoffs are played. For example, the White Sox are a half a game ahead of the Guardians, so if the Guards win today they’ll be in first place in the Central AL but the White Sox will be in the playoffs. There’s 10 more games to play. I think it has something to do with how many wins AGAINST the teams in your division. It’s kinda crazy so if someone knows how this works please explain!🤪 Edited September 16 by Rye Miles #13621 Quote
Brock Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I believe it's this. The three division winners are in. Then among the non division winners the three teams in the league with the best W-L records are wild cards. 2 Quote

The Guardians win today would put them a half game ahead of the White Sox in the Central AL. So I guess so far they’ll be in but then again there’s 9 games left in the regular season. So it’s still up for grabs. Quote
Cypress Sun Posted September 23 Posted September 23 The Tampa Bay Rays clinched the AL East Title and will have the best record in the AL and therefore homefield advantage throughout the AL playoffs. I must admit that I am very surprised with both acheivements. I'll root for them, of course, but I really don't think they have what it takes to go the distance. Hopefully, I'll be surprised again! Cypress Sun Posted September 24 Posted September 24 I might be able to understand Colorado's loss numbers if they had the lowest payroll in MLB, but they don't. The Rockies yearly payroll is $113,445,351 and ranked 22nd out of 30 teams for 2026. In comparison, Tampa Bay is ranked 23 in payroll ($107,351,722) and will have the best record of all teams in the AL. Cleveland is ranked at dead last in payroll @ 30th ($76,563,158), leads the AL Central and has a strong chance to make the playoffs. The top three big spenders are, order, Dodgers, Mets and Yankees with a combined payroll of over $1.18 billion. The Mets will not make the playoffs and are last in their division. I don't know what the deal is with the Mets, don't really care either, but I firmly believe that Colorado is completely mismanaged from the top down. At first I wondered if they were going for draft picks but it's obvious that isn't the problem. 2026 MLB payrolls in descending order 2026 MLB Team Salary Payroll Tracker Quote

Cleveland is a well managed team. They’ve got some good young players and picked up a couple veterans a couple months ago. They won the division last year too. 1 Quote

Back in '05 NL West almost had an under .500 team take it. Quote
