Or is it just me? Everywhere I go, I  see men that dress like they just don't care about their appearance. Untucked T-shirts, baggy shorts, and flip flops.

Maybe I'm an old fuddy duddy, but I remember a time, not so long ago when most men cared what they looked like.

I certainly don't dress like a Dandy of any sort, but I DO wear Jeans, at least a Polo shirt, and boots when I'm out in public. Heck I don't even OWN shorts OR flip flops.

Some of you have probably read my posts wherein I fully admit to being a borderline Luddite. Is this just more of my not wanting to get with the times? Or am I just plain wrong here?

I have noticed the same.

As society has gotten lazier and more self-absorbed, simple decency including respectable dress has gone in the crapper.

Both of my grandpa's would never "go to town" without dressing what was socially acceptable to the norms of the day. Slacks, leather shoes, a jacket and hat. I don't remember too many men not doing the same, once upon a time.

Flip flops are the epitome of laziness and uncouthness. Those should be reserved for showering at the gym, the beach or pool not part of dressing for a nice restaurant.

A man should dress like a grown up, not a 7th grader.

I've seen pictures from the Depression of men in soup lines still dressed in suits and hats.

I dress the way I do for purpose! I don’t wear shorts outside of the house. I have worked in environments where the skin needs to be protected and have my whole life! Welding, cutting material, rough construction, and machinery/mechanic work are all hazardous to your hide!

My shirt is always tucked in, no matter what kind of shirt or fabric! Again, working around machinery, you don’t want clothing to get caught up in the works! I was working outside in the bitter cold, digging post holes for a pole barn. Even though everything was tucked in, I got tangled with the auger and made fifteen laps before my dad could get the thing shut down! It folded my left forearm in two, broke my right leg near the ankle, and fractured my skull. My clothes were new and heavy duty and nothing tore in the incident!

I either roll up my sleeves or wear short sleeve shirts when I work around any kind of moving equipment.

I NEVER wear a tie or anything around my neck!  Same reason as above! I did wear one at my wedding. I put it on just before entering the auditorium at the church and I was untying it as we walked down the aisle when the preacher was done!

I mostly wear pocket Ts and jeans unless I’m on stage and even then if it’s a bar or a nightclub that ain’t real fancy!

I wear heavy canvas, denim,  or leather when I ride. I wear fire clothes when I drive a race car.

I don’t own a suit! I do have a “sport coat” that I’ve worn twice in thirty or so years.

I wear lace up boots or lace up shoes. I’ve had enough issues with my left foot to convince me that flip flops or sandals are not for me.

If I dress up at all, I wear cowboy clothes.  Anything more formal is to be avoided unless it pays really well!

It all depends on where you’re going. Overall people have gone super casual over the last 20 years or more. Shorts are fine. Untucked tshirts? I can’t remember the last time I tucked in a shirt, maybe never. I don’t wear flip flops but so what? As long as it’s not on a plane or funeral or church or wedding etc etc

Exactly. Even starving and broke they maintained some level of class.

For normal everyday shopping or go to casual restaurants, I wear shorts, un-tucked T-shirt, socks, shoes, compression socks and SAS shoes. The un-tucked T-shirt is my way of concealment and shorts....come on it's Florida, it sure as hell isn't a dry heat.

For nice restaurants or 'stylish' events, I wear nice blue jeans, button top shirt and the rest same as above.

For work type events, shorts or jeans (depending upon the job), no jewelry of any kind, tucked in T-shirt and the rest same as above.

I don't even own a suit or the like that fits, in fact I donated it to a veterans' organization.

If someone doesn't like the way I dress....You can't know how little I care.

Every day - Western dress, jeans, LS Shirt clean, wrinkle free, boots and buckle polished, hat brushed. I do believe that some dress modes have become so sleazy that it has reduced my interest in fine dining experiences. Donated all my suits, have 2 sport coats and a set of slacks remaining - funerals, a fact of life as a survivor. A gun, too always.

Exactly! They didn’t own shorts or flip flops, they may not haven’t even been made yet. 🙄

I wear a sport coat of some kind 99.99% of the time because I carry a J-Frame S&W in my right coat pocket.  If anyone asks me why I wear a coat on hot days, I just laugh and tell them I want to be the best dressed guy in Walmart!

I don't mind folks laughing at the geezer with his hands in his coat pockets,  because I already have my gun in my hand.  And I don't mind a hole in my coat if it ever comes to that.  Fortunately it never has.

I don't wear shorts because I don't enjoy sunburned legs, and I don't think my legs are admirable.

Depends  on situation.  A quick stop and the store at 0600? Loose, lightweight pants,  square cut tall button front shirt, untucked as they are designed to be worn, and crocks.

Anything else, black jeans, black skies and socks,  white shirt tucked in.  Fir church,  add a black Russian style cassock over that.

Maybe. But they still could have let it slide to just a shirt and pants. Instead, they chose to show that even broke and starving they still had some dignity.

Or it could be that the clothes on their backs were the only things they still owned and they didn't want them stolen while they were in a soup line.

This is a topic I have no strong opinion on.  I wear short and an untucked t shirt (covers my gun) when it's warm.  Camo pants or jeans when it's cold, still an untucked t shirt.  I don't own a suit, tie, or even a sport coat.  I am what I am.

I seldom conceal! I don’t have much that hangs off enough for someone to grab and I don’t have to lift my shirt tail out of the way to access my weapon.

I choose where I go and I am circumspect about my surroundings.  I cut the room into pie

slices before I take my seat in any setting.  I seldom even wear a long sleeve shirt and unless I am welding, cutting or grinding, (and sometimes even then) my sleeves are rolled up!

Once the daily temperature averages single digits, I usually put on a light jacket if I’m going to be outside for more than half an hour.

If I’m out for a long period, I have the proper garments to deal with sub zero for as long as necessary!

I can put on enough clothes to stay warm.  I’d wind up in jail if I took off enough to stay cool lately around here!!

About 4 months of the year Wrangler jeans, tucked in button down shirt, vest and work boots. The other 8 months cargo shorts and tucked in button down shirt, socks  and Sketchers slip on shoes.

I've worn boots, jeans (used to call them overalls) and western "cowboy" shirts and hats as everyday gear for as long as I remember.  People seem toget a kick out of me tipping my hat and calling folks ma'am and sir too.

In the Army and Marine Corps I wore the uniform of the day until I was off duty, and when I was in one of several businesses that required it, I wore suits or sport jacket, ties, etc.  I don't own a button down shirt and haven't since Ike was president.  I avoid slip-on shoes and only wea'r shoes instead of boots to more dress up affairs or to the gym.

I remember the first time we flew on an airplane Mom wore an evening dress and Dad wore a suit and tie.  He wore the same thing on the train.

I never saw my Dad out of the yard  without a hat and most of the time he wore a tie.....unless he was hunting or fishing or at a sporting event.

It just wasn't done.  Most of our friends and neighbors were the same way.

Today almost anything goes.

I wear Sketchers every day, got a couple pairs. They’re great! 👍

Hey, Sarge, ask the same question about women.

As a side note, I don't really care what you wear if you don't mind getting laughed at or simply avoided.

I'm not even going to try to figure women's fashions out. I only asked about men's dress habits because most of the denisons of The Saloon are men, and I figgered I'd have a better chance at a discussion.

And it's not that I really care, but I just want to understand, though I doubt I ever will.

I often find that open honest discussion doesn't start with an insult.

Normal attire outside of the house. Button shirt or western shirt. Blue or black jeans. Belt with western buckle.

Cowboy boots and cowboy hat. If I care about my gun not showing I will wear a vest. Also for church, bolo tie and sport coat.

Depends on where I'm going.

If we are sub-teaching, clothing will be a bit nicer.

Button down shirt and docker type pants. Western style and neatly pressed. Boots/shoes shined and belt to match. Maybe a bolo.

Still amazed at what some full-time teachers wear to school. Like they pulled clothes out of the hamper. Aside from "theme" days.

If it's a shop class, it will be jeans and short sleeves, belt. But still neat in appearance.

If I don't look like I'm in charge, then I'm just the tallest person in the room.

However, if I'm working on a project and need to run into town for some bolts or welding wire, I will probably appear dirty and homeless.

Always conceal my weapon. I'm just more comfortable that way.

The only "style" that makes me shake my head is men in business attire (suit or slacks and a sport coat) with the shirt untucked and hanging out beneath the bottom of the jacket.

If you really want to see a parade of "I don't care how I look" be at an airport at 6am.

Before going to town my grandpa would put on a clean shirt, his string tie and nicer shoes & fedora.  Even if he was just going to buy feed.

Hey, arge, ask the same question about women.

For me, I wear yoga pants and a work out shirt around the house ONLY!!  The pants have a pocket for my phone and that's all I care about.  At home I'm usually cooking, cleaning or doing other physical work where lose fitting clothes would be prohibitive.  If I'm running to the store I will swap my yoga pants out for a  pair of casual pants because I'm sure the public doesn't want to see me in yoga pants.  Since I don't have to wear suits to work any longer, I wear a nice, pressed pair of capris or slacks, dressy sandals or clogs and a nice blouse, most of the time untucked.  Going out to dinner or an evening out, the most casual I will do is a dressy pair of embellished jeans and a nice blouse.  If we're going to the local theater, I ramp things up to a nice pair of slacks and a nice blouse.

Because of the reconstructive surgery on my left foot, I have to wear "supportive" shoes, hence the clogs or clog sandals.  Additionally, I can no longer wear heels for the same reason.  I can only tolerate sneakers or soft casual shoes one or two days a week.

I too was raised to care about how I look.  I do my best to present myself well at all times.  Since my weight is in a "transition" phase, I'm not willing to invest in new clothes right now.  At times, my clothes may  be a little loose or a little snug.  I roll with it knowing it will pass.  I will never go anywhere looking like a stuffed sausage or like I'm wearing an expensive trash bag.

Not that l ever watch the mega church programs on tv, but when scrolling for something worthwhile I've noticed that most of the so-called preachers now dress like they are working in the barn......jeans, shirttail out, looking like they slept in their clothes....Seems like an attempt to look cool for the progressive woke folks.....

Frankly,  after decades of having to wear jeans or equivalent, and a medium weight or heavy weight shirt, and boots for work, I enjoy light weight pants and shirts (NEVER T-SHIRTS...I hate anything tight on my neck except for my cassock), and light shoes. Sandals, even.

I'm not going to change my clothes to meet someone else's standards just to go grocery shopping. I won't dress like a slob, but won't put on a suit.  Change clothes, go shopping,  get home, change clothes again. Stupid.

Just came back from a 9-11 ceremony.  At least half the people were in t shirts, and some in shorts.

😞 sad.

Don't forget the people who put on a dress shirt and dress pants but cannot be bothered to tuck in the shirt. Some go even further to put a sweater on over the untucked dress shirt.
