Bat house

I bought one and don't know where to put it.  

 

The east side of my work shop under the eaves and with a tree making additional shade seems best, but there are a lot of birds and wasps there already, and around the corner on the north side is an all night very bright security light.  It's a spot with little wind (most of the time). relatively cool, and out of the way for most purposes.

 

What say you all?

Place a bat house 12 to 20 feet above the ground on a pole or the side of a building (not on a tree) facing south or southeast to get at least six to seven hours of daily sun.

Ideal Location RulesSunlight: Choose a spot with maximum exposure, ideally facing south or southeast, since Arizona bats need high heat for maternity colonies.

Height: Mount the box 12 to 20 feet high so bats have clearance to drop safely upon launch.

Water Source: Place the house within a quarter-mile of a natural or artificial water source, such as local ponds, lakes, or streams common around Prescott.

Clearance: Avoid mounting on trees. Trees block vital sunlight, obstruct flight paths, and give predators like cats or snakes easy access.

Distractions: Keep the house away from bright exterior lights, loud noise, and heavy traffic.

Fascinating critters, and we have them naturally in quantity. If I didn't, I don't know if I'd encourage them since they are sometimes rabies carriers.

When we first moved to Utah in 1952 we bought a house next door to the Presbyterian church.  They had a four story bel tower about 50' x 50'.

 

They had bats in their belfry for sure, for sure.  During the Spring all the way to early Fall the bats would "swarm" right about sundown.

 

We didn't have any yard bugs, flies. etc for  a mile or so.

 

I got airborne critters all over my place and the bat house seems like a good idea.

This.

We do put them on trees...but clear of any branches. Bats are less likely to inhabit if preditors can scurry around it. 

They want the warmth...and if you place it closest to a water source, you will be good to go.

It usually takes a full season before bats locate the new home.

Well...mine has been up 3 years...and friends only saw one bat...INSIDE the apartment.

I believe I need to move mine...it is under the lip of the deck...so squirells can reach it.

put it away from your house/shop it will get infested and you cant get rid of them easily , the whole oidea of the batt hose is to keep them out of your house

Right? Never did I think my guest would be on Bat patrol!!!

And, here they must be removed/relocated from your home, if they get in amd take up house, by professionals

well , i lived with one of my wifes girlfriends when we were dating - long story dont ask right now , we moved into an old local home - well over 150 years old at the time , the second year we lived there the bats started migrating from the attic into the house - her in her underwire with a tennis racket jumps to mind screaming for me to "shoot it" resonates in memory  , i got it outside but we moved soon after , couldnt get an exterminator to come as they are protected here or they were then , 

 

my wife and i have been married 35 years , i lived with her friend for four years platonically when we were dating and i lived with an airline stewardess for two years before that also as we were dating and also plutonic both because of the dating situation , so interesting times but not so much as most folks might think , raised a lot of eyebrows back then but really nothing to it except each helping the other monetarily at a time when it was advantageous to both , 

marie sold my hose for me tho because she made it look so good when she moved in , it sold in two months and we had to move to the bat house
