And then there's the question of "have you ever shot anyone?" That split second of hesitation can get you killed". Quote
Jack Spade Posted September 5 Posted September 5 I had the very first CCW permit issued in my county. My dad and I were also instructors and owned the local gun and archery shop. So many stories we could tell about ccw students. I think it has changed now but originally in Missouri you had to fire 125 rounds in the range portion of the class. 50 rounds of practice each with a revolver and semi auto and then 25 rounds to qualify using either gun. One lady came to the class and shot a ruger blackhawk in .30 carbine as her revolver. We did a private class for a family group one time and the guys all got to goading each other and they all qualified on the little silhouette in the corner of the B-27 qualification targets. In another class a guy had bought a brand new semi auto pistol the night before. I noticed when he was loading it that he was having trouble loading the magazines but that is common for new shooters. I then told them to chamber a round and when he did the whole cartridge slid out the end of the barrel. The gun shop had sold him a .40 handgun and 9mm ammo, at least that was his story. 1 Quote

Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted September 5 Posted September 5 Or the guy who went to Alaska to hunt bear....with a 20 gauge double barrel shotgun and 12 gauge Super Target loads. He wasn't stupid about some things, earned half a mil a year...but he was certain that he knew a lot without a clue what was talking about a lot of the time. 1 Quote

Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted September 5 Posted September 5 1 hour ago, Eyesa Horg said: Did the bears let him live?🤔 Old joke I stole from Reddit: An Atheist Walking In The Woods Is Chased By A Bear. An atheist was walking through the woods. "What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!" he said to himself. As he was walking alongside the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He turned to look. He saw a 7-foot grizzly bear charge towards him. He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder and saw that the bear was closing in on him. He looked over his shoulder again, and the bear was even closer. He tripped and fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up but saw that the bear was right on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw and raising his right paw to strike him. At that instant the Atheist cried out, "Oh my God!" Time stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent. As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky. "You deny my existence for all these years, teach others I don't exist and even credit creation to cosmic accident." "Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?" The atheist looked directly into the light, "It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps you could make the BEAR a Christian?" "Very well," said the voice. The light went out. The sounds of the forest resumed. And the bear dropped his right paw, brought both paws together, bowed his head and spoke: "Lord bless this food, which I am about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord, Amen. 1 1 3 Quote

The rep met him at the plane, took him to lunch, and explained why he was giving him his money back, and put him on a plane back to Ontario, CA. I retired a year later but was told that he had gone back and found out what he was supposed to do, went back to California and bought a .458 Winchester Magnum, got some lessons and a bunch of new gear, planning to go back. Don't know if he ever did. Last I heard his wife divorced him, took their two daughters and most of his business and the house and most furnishings. 1 2 Quote
Matthew Duncan Posted September 7 Posted September 7 (edited) Back in the day…Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and 38 caliber revolvers were duty weapons of choice. Marion County officers had a superior attitude (IMHO) and “they” would win the Top Gun award, just a matter of which one. They had the best of everything. Then there was the 6’ 2” (?) middle age, paunchy belly, balding, slow moving and I don’t believe I ever heard a word out of him, Joe (not his real name). A Deputy Marshall from a very small town department. Joe won and it wasn’t even close. Marion County thought the best equipment along with the current shooting style fad would insure their win. Obviously it was Joe’s mentality and pratice, pratice, pratice and more pratice that was correct I said of that to say this: IMHO the largest percentage would have to think where in the house they hid that “just in case I need it” gun. Another percentage haven’t addressed if they have the mentally of potentially taking a life, bought the wrong firearm and/ or for bragging about being armed or licensed. It will be the quiet ones that will step up to do what the life(s) in danger situation calls for. Edited September 7 by Matthew Duncan 4 Quote

Part of my criticism is the requirement only applies to those who choose to carry. I would ask this friend a different question. How would he feel about the government requiring him to purchase one or more firearms at his expense and get trained in its use at his expense? Clearly constitutional under "history and tradition" under militia laws. Clearly constitutional if applied to all citizens and not some subset. we could argue anything - but i think the constitution gives the right for all to carry , i know im not gonna gain traction against all the lawyers that have manipulated the law but in fact it does 1 Quote

You know he's just got that "attitude". My wife gave me good advice one time (it's happened many times, but this one is applicable). It was right after my book was published. Some joker on the Wire commented something along the line of "who is this guy, he's never won anything". I stewed on it, wrote out several responses, then refreshed the page to see 30+ folks come to my defense. My wife came up and said "what's bugging you so much" and I showed her the post. She said "you can't win a pissing contest with a prick." I shut the computer down and went to bed and didn't worry about it any more. Statistically, 1 is enough. But plans go out the window when boots hit the ground and it's best to be prepared. 1 Quote

Exactly why I have three or four pistols a rifle and a shotgun close at hand, but not all at one time hanging on my body and under a circus tent amount of clothing to conceal them. I'm though goading Red now. Thanks for watching. 1 Quote

I really like that round. Basically a "223 Remington Short". Fast, flat, easy to use and learn with, even with the most kick-shy gunner. Fairly substantial temporary cavities with the right bullet choice. The ONLY thing I do not like about it is that reloading it is more work that it is worth. It has to do with the coating on the outside of the round. This is actually a part of the round's physical structure. 2 Quote

I sure miss her. 5 Quote
