Bison Bud Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I watched a documentary last night about folks that think that the moon landing back in 1969 was faked. I for one feel that this was one of the most important events of our times and have trouble believing that there are so many folks out there that appear to think that the whole thing was faked and the extent they will go to try to stir up the controversy. To these conspiracy theorists I have a question: If the whole thing was faked to fool the Russians and the rest of the world, then why did we go back 5 more times? The first one would have been enough to put the Russians in their place and as elaborate as faking this thing would have been, don't you think that follow up flights to the moon would increase the odds of getting busted faking it? Frankly, I don't see how anyone can ignore all the actual evidence that the landings really took place. However, I'm not sure NASA has ever told the whole story either and probably never will. In any case, I'd like to have input from some of these theorists to explain their position on the 5 successful return trips as well as the miraculous, yet unsuccessful, Apollo 13 flight, as this never was mentioned in the documentary. Good luck and good shooting to all! 1 Quote
John Kloehr Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Faking it would have been more difficult and more expensive than just going there. For those who might still believe it was faked, I offer this: 2 2 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Throughout history, there have been phonied up events and massive hoaxes, BUT THAT WAS NOT ONE OF THEM!! Too many people devoted or even risked their lives and a few gave theirs to make our space program the success that it was!! The conspiracy theorists who deny that it happened are shouting at the darkness!! 4 Quote
Pat Riot Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I had a subordinate at work get very disrespectful and aggressive with me when he said the moon landing was fake and I called him a pinheaded fool. The reasoning I used with him was “How did 400,000 people keep the secret of the ruse up to this day?” After a few minutes more of listening to his buffoonery I pulled rank and told him to just shut the hell up and never speak of this again in my presence. Over the years I have encountered those that believe the moon landing was fake, the earth is flat and 911 was a conspiracy and they aren’t even worth a “Bless their little hearts.” I have no time for them. 7 Quote
Trailrider #896 Posted August 29 Posted August 29 The real question is are those people real? We certainly need some AI, as there is very little real intelligence on Earth. If you really want to get into it with someone, ask Dr. Aldrin (he is only "Buzz" to his intimates) whether he went there or not. Just be sure you are more than arm's length from him when you do! 1 1 2 Quote
Wallaby Jack, SASS #44062 Posted August 30 Posted August 30 yes it's fake. they got Stanley Kubrick to produce it; and mr Kubrick, being his usual self, insisted on authenticity and filmed it on site ..... on the moon. 🤪 3 Quote

This was years before Sputnik I. When Apollo 11 landed on Tranquility Base, the crater was identical to the one Bonestel had painted! (I had an art course in middle school with his nephew!) 1 Quote

Sixgun Seamus Posted August 30 Posted August 30 I never encountered a fake moon landing "expert" until several weeks ago. We had to have a service repairman in for our dishwasher. I'm not sure how we got on the subject but he was adamant that it was faked. I gave valid answers to questions he asked but there was no reasoning with him. I just shut up and he had to get to his next appointment. 2 Quote

Cypress Sun Posted August 30 Posted August 30 I've never met anyone who believes, at least verbally, that the moon landing(s) were faked. I do have a friend that absolutely believes that 9/11 was set up by the government, the planes were really grey drones and that "controlled demolition" brought down the towers. At first, I tried to show him the facts that show he is wrong about the planes by showing him a VCR tape I have that consists of the entire day's events. I left work shortly after the first collapse of the second tower to be hit and as soon as I got home, I started the tape and taped the entire day. I showed him video of the exact place on the tower(s) where the collapse started. He still refused to give up his conviction that it was all a big conspiracy to start a war. We made a rule between ourselves so that our friendship would endure...we don't talk about 9/11. I watched man walk on the moon for the first time live in black and white, I have no doubt that it was real. Quote

Bison Bud Posted August 30 Author Posted August 30 (edited) First of all, thanks to all that contributed here! Frankly, I find it amazing how locked into a conspiracy some folks can get. I have a step son that also swears that the whole thing was faked and that is one of the reasons I watched the documentary I mentioned in the opening statement. Anyway, I have discussed it with him on multiple occasions and even shown him photos from the lunar orbiter of the actual landing site still visible on the moon's surface. His response to that was that he could make that up in the back of his pickup truck. He tried to use a photo of one of the astronauts standing on the moon saying that there are no stars in the sky of the photo, but I told him that he was photographed in bright sunlight and asked him if he could see stars in the daytime. I also told him that when the camera was stopped down enough for the proper exposure of the astronaut, that the sky would indeed be black, but he wouldn't buy that one either and still insists that this is proof positive that the whole thing was faked. Anyway, it is indeed surprising to me that anyone can be that narrow minded or maybe stupid is a better word, but they are indeed out there! Thanks for kicking in here and good luck and good shooting to all. Edited August 30 by Bison Bud 2 Quote

Many years ago a well-known mid-western college (I don't recall which one) had a professor who sent about 100 students out to make a point. Their job was to take surveys of people on the street, young and old and anything else, stating that di-hydrogen monoxide was a very dangerous substance that was all over the world. It is highly addictive, is used by virtually everyone, everywhere, causing injuries, illness, and death to millions, nay billions of people. If anyone tried to get rid of the addiction they would die a horrible death in a very few days. People fought and died over it, gave it to their children, friends, and strangers. It could be found in sports, recreation, all kinds of medicines, used in most food and was used on our crops before they were even planted. All governments, every industry, every religion, every social structure, every nationality and culture was involved! SOMETHING MUST BE DONE! In a two or three week period these students collected thousands of responses and when they had categorized and counted the results, they found that some 20% simply laughed their butts off another 35% or 40% caught on right away but didn't find it funny at all, some refused to answer and some just walked on by, BUT 19% WANTED THE GOVERNMENT AND INDUSTRY AND EVERY ONE ELSE TO DO SOMETHING TO GET THE HORRLE MENACE OUT OUR LIVES AS QUICLY AS POSSIBLE! They signed petitions, volunteered to help, some offered to donate to the cause, wear buttons, put flags in their yards, pass out bumper stickers, and join public demonstrations, contact elected officials, help with street and phone surveys, or whatever else was needed. They were really fired up.... ....TO DO AWAY WITH WATER! And now they breed and vote and beat the drums for some other outlandish garbage. Many hold important positions in government, education, every industry the news media and entertainment...everywhere. Edited August 30 by Forty Rod SASS 3935 1 2 Quote
Stump Water Posted August 30 Posted August 30 (edited) I guess it was about 2000 or so, I read a very lengthy treatise about the Oklahoma City Bombing. The author's premise was that there was no possible way that one truck packed with explosives could have done that much damage. He went into great detail about where and how numerous shape charges were placed in order to cause the damage that occurred and that it was not possible that McVeigh acted alone. He certainly put a lot of work into the piece. . . Edited August 30 by Stump Water Quote
