Cyrus Cassidy #45437 Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Whelp, it's been a journey of about 13 years, from Tiger Cubs to Eagle Scout! This kid has a habit of doing everything at the last minute, and this time he managed to turn in his Eagle application exactly 4 days before his 18th birthday (which is the cutoff). His Board of Review was a few weeks after his 18th, which is fine as long as it's turned in on time. So last night we accompanied him to his BoR, and of course he passed. So he's officially an Eagle Scout. The other gentleman with him is his Scoutmaster. 12 4 Quote

Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted August 20 Posted August 20 I never completed my Eagle before turning 18 finished as Life with 17 merit badges. Did manage to complete my God and Country as a youth. During my time as Assistant SM and Scout Master I did everything in my power to get the young men in the troop to complete their Eagle. Got a bunch done but some slipped through unfinished. He will be very glad later in life that he was able to complete it. I had many tell me later after they were grown men that it opened many doors for them. 2 Quote
Caprock Kid Posted August 21 Posted August 21 My oldest completed his Eagle Scout (one week before 18) and was awarded his rank one week before I left on a one year unaccompanied tour to Korea. Nice memories to take with me ad I disappeared for a year! 2 Quote

And major kudos to Mom and Dad for the encouragement and support helping the young man reach this goal - he's a Four Percenter! Well done indeed! I am not an Eagle, but my son is. And yours beat mine – Ryan turned his application in TWO days before his 18th. Among many other “jobs” in my Scouter career, I’ve been Assistant Council Commissioner for the last four or five years; prior to that I served as District Commissioner for nearly ten. But of all the jobs, the best by far has been chairing or sitting on something well north of a hundred Eagle Boards of Review. All were wonderfully rewarding; a few were outstanding. None were disappointing. At the conclusion of each Review, I give a little speech to the new Eagle and his parents or other escort. I usually end this by recommending sending announcements; obviously to family and friends, but also public officials, usually through their websites - local community leaders, State Representative and Senator, your Congressman, two United States Senators, and even the President of the United States. Now, for the last, definitely do NOT mail an announcement; rather, go to this site: https://www.whitehouse.gov/greetings/ It may take a few weeks, but a response from the White House is all but guaranteed. Other Scouts I’ve known have received all sorts of congratulatory returns, ranging from certificates from the County Board of Supervisors to flags flown over the U. S. Capitol. It’s kinda be fun to present this swag at his Court of Honor - and it impresses and encourages younger Scouts. So… Cyrus, can you tell us what he did for his Eagle Project? 2 1 Quote
