My apologies, but I am a first time "Land Runner" and trying to get my "stuff" together for October (which is coming REALLY fast).

Fairly easy to guess round count for Cowboy, but any idea on round count for Wild Bunch?

Second question is for BAM.  The web site only lists BAM as a side match but doesn't describe the BAM shoot like it does for other side matches (rounds and engagement).  How many rounds do I need for this and how is it shot?

Any recommendations from veteran Land Runners highly appreciated!

Not having attended Land Run since the very first one, this is my rule about ammo supplies:  Take 250 rounds for every main match firearm you're taking...  not including any backup firearms.   Take at least 100 rounds for every side match firearm... again, don't count backups.  I didn't follow that rule once... and didn't have enough when I ended up with a reshoot on a stage.  But, since my last big match saw me taking 13 difference firearms for main match, side matches... (not counting backups), I'm very glad I have a 1-ton p/u!

Frontiersman count:

if you shoot each round of warm-ups on Tuesday (8 stages):  80 balls   80 cases  32+ shotgun

if you shoot each round of warm-ups on Wednesday (12 stages):  120 balls    120   cases     48+ shotgun

If you shoot the Main match (12 stages):  120 balls    120 cases    48+ shotgun

total from above (all):  320 balls     320 cases    128  shotshells  for the frontiersman.

(for you modern folks, 640 rounds plus 128 shotshells.)

I was told, when you go to Land Run, bring as much ammo as you can carry, because they give you plenty of opportunities to shoot !!

Now your mileage may very, so PLEASE verify my math !  I'm bringing 400 Balls, 400 cases, and 200 shotgun shells - and 5 pounds of Goex !

Since 10-10-4 has become the norm it shouldn't be hard to calculate x 12 stages. Then, to be sure x 2 for warm ups and side matches stuff.

@Assassin Hello Friend !!!   Looking forward to shooting with you soon, and seeing you next year at Hell on Wheels !!  You sure put on a great match !

I think there are three things that confuse people when it comes to round count, and I fall into each of these catagories; (1) Laziness to do the math, and (2) final actual total varies based on what warm-ups and side matches that a Cowboy/Cowgirl plans to shoot (3) see item 1.

I personally love the extra night shoots, the BP side matches, and all the warm-up stages.  I always bring at least 2x of the match total.

For example, Land Run main match is only 12 stages (converting to "rounds"  for all you non-cap-n-ball shooters) - 240 rounds for the main match.

You COULD shoot 240 on Wednesday if you shoot the three warm-ups (12 stages).

You COULD shoot 160 on Tuesday if you shoot the two warm-ups (8 stages).

This total is 640 rounds including the 120 round main match !!!  You shouldnt run out with at least 700 rounds - in case you get any re-shoots.  That's a lot of smoke and fire !!!

I shot everything last year, and was a little tired for the Big Match!

For Wild Bunch, expecting a ten stage match, most of the events I have shot, and ALL of the matches I have written, average 28 rounds per stage from the pistol, 8 rounds for rifle and 6 rounds for shotgun.
Total  280 for pistol, 80 for rifle, 60 for shotgun. That would get you through a match IF everything went perfectly, I typically bring at least 50% more for WB, more if I am going to shoot WB warmups and side matches. Same math for Cowboy at 10-10-4 for 12 stages. I don’t shoot BAM but long range often needs up to 20 or so per gun plus maybe a few sighters so 50 rounds works for me. Many (maybe all?) ranges don’t allow practice so enough for the COF x 2 is enough.
WAY better to bring extra and have to take it back home, than running low and dealing with that stress while trying to do your best in the match.
YMMV and good luck at LR
