Spanish Moss is not a parasite it is an epiphyte aka "Air Plant". It takes no nutrients from the host tree. It absorbs everything it needs from the air and rain. The only danger it poses to the host tree is the potential of blocking sunlight to the inner leaves of the host tree, additional weight to limbs and most of all the increased wind loading. About 70% of all Orchids are epiphytes. Quote
