watab kid Posted August 7 Posted August 7 first off life is short , no matter how old you get to be , life goes faster as we age , im never offended when a kid calls me old in any context - id prefer to think "well educated" but then they might want me to help them with their homework - not interested any more , however i would love to give some young folks a history lesson - this seems to be lacking these days in our youngsters , i fear some are soon to learn about the communism they seem to have adopted recently , butill drop that for now ............ ive often had very young kids in strollers and or walking with parents wave at me or smile - i always smile back and or wave - again , life is short , like to be remembered as a person that liked kids - i do - i dont go out of my way , im just kid friendly if they are good kids , i dont care for the troublemakers 2 Quote

I'm not in the slightest offended at being called old, because I am. I appreciated the boy being friendly. I've experienced a few too many kids throwing tantrums lately. I think the mother is headed in the right direction by telling her child those kinds of things are not nice to say and he shouldn't say them. I think there's hope for those boys. 4 Quote
Dawg Hair, SASS #29557 Posted August 7 Posted August 7 My daughter keeps insisting that I ask my doctor for an MRI because of the way I'm now walking. I keep reminding her that I'm 84 and just old. But she keeps on insisting, so I just tell her that I'm just looking for sympathy..............usually that makes her do that noise like my wife used to do which means "You're impossible"! or something like that that only women can do/say. 1 Quote
Calamity Kris Posted August 7 Author Posted August 7 Just got out of a meeting here at w*rk. Was in an office with a group of people I support. They started talking about what it was like to be a child of the 80's. One started by giving their birth year, "Oh I was born in '83." "Well I was born in '87." "I was born in '84." "I was born in '84 too." Then they all looked at me. I gave a year considerably earlier than all of them. One looked at me and said "Wait, what???" 2 4 Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted August 7 Posted August 7 I once had a 19 year old in my crew. I remembered when his Mom was pregnant with him!! Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted August 7 Posted August 7 I coached basketball and coached, umpired, and ran the baseball program for the area where I live when Hatfield was a kid. I see the boys and girls that I spent so much time with running businesses, teaching school, working in hospitals, and raising kids of their own! Those “kids” are in their forties now! Some of my recent interactions with them have been comical. Some have been very rewarding. It’s kinda’ cool when a forty something walks up and slaps you on the back and says, “Hey coach!” in the middle of a store or restaurant! 😎 3 Quote
Stump Water Posted August 7 Posted August 7 A few years before I retired I hired a younger guy onto the IT team. He was amused by the fact that, when I started working there, he was two." 3 Quote

By the same token, my medical insurance company is forcing me to use an app on my phone instead of the computer to deal with them. The font on most of those is so small and they have so much crammed into one screen it's difficult to discern what they're trying to tell you or what they want you to do. 1 1 Quote

DocWard Posted August 12 Posted August 12 (edited) It's happened a few times in the past, but when it happened today, I thought of this thread. I was working with a Vietnam veteran today, and he asked me if I had served in Vietnam also. I thought to myself, "No, not by nearly two decades." I kind of laughed and said it was a bit before my time, but being an Army Reservist at the time, I was called to active duty for Desert Storm and then as a National Guard member, served in OIF/OEF. I wonder if it's the white in my goatee... Edited August 12 by DocWard 1 Quote

I have told several companies that I don’t have a computer and my phone doesn’t do apps so that they have to talk to me by phone or in person!!
