Earlier this year, while walking Custer, I would encounter two ravens, an adult and possibly a juvenile, quite often. I believe they were the same two each time. They would be in a tree or on a power pole and would remain there while I talked to them for a few minutes from 20 - 30 ft away.

 

Ravens are fascinating creatures.

Today is Wednesday... "Odin's Day."  

 

Odin had two companions, two sacred ravens named Hūginn and Mūninn:

     Huginn means "Thought". He represents the active, analytical, and inquisitive nature of the mind.

     Muninn means "Memory". He represents recollection, mindfulness, and the retention of deep wisdom.

 

They fly out at dawn each day, and fly over the entire world.  They return by evening mealtime, and sit on Odin's shoulders and tell him all the news and gossip they have gathered.  And, because of them, Odin is known as the Raven God (Hrafnguð).

Just what is the difference between crows and ravens? We've got a bunch of big, black birds that go "Caw! Caw!" (Rocky Mountain Front Range...Denver and vicinity). When they get really noisy, I yell, "Go home, Corvis!", but they don't pay much attention.

Crows & Raven belong to the same family, Corvidae I think it said!       From Google:

Crows and ravens differ primarily in size, voice, and tail shape: ravens are much larger with wedge-shaped tails and deep croaks, while crows are smaller with fan-shaped tails and high-pitched caws.

 

We have both here, the Ravens are noticably larger.
