Yep. Was tagged with it at the US Military Academy. And once you get a "call sign" like that,  it's yours for life. Apparently his skin was very pink, and he blushed a bright red very easily.

There was a sign on the bulletin board in the officers' club at Offutt AFB in 1964.  It read something like "If there is another crash landing at this facility the pilots better die in the wreckage."

 

It was signed by General LeMay.

 

I met him a few years later at Camrahn Bay, Vietnam when he was running for Vice President.  Crusty as hell, but quite a nice guy.  He spent a lot of his time with the troops, not so much with officers.

He swore in my AFROTC fellow cadets who were graduating at Bradley University in June 1964. Although I was a "completed cadet", I had another year of engineering before graduating, as did a buddy of mine, who had another semester of engineering to go.  We watched the ceremony. Quite something! IIRC, LeMay, who was AF Chief of Staff, retired shortly after that. 

Some people hated him, some liked him, but he was the right man in the right spots, first as CO of 21st Bombing Command during WWII, and later as CINCSAC, when SAC needed him to make it the third leg of the Triad! Personally, it would have been an honor to serve under him, but by the time I was in SAC missiles, he had retired.
