Had some fun with hammers today.

But I did NOT get hammered! My grandad told me once, “boy you just can’t leave well enough alone, but sometimes you have a decent idea”!Now whether or not this is one of those decent ones or not I’m not sure, I’ll see what you all think. 
 

Another Cowboy shooter and I were discussing hammer styles here a few weeks ago, they commented they liked Blackhawk hammers but did not like the width. A few weeks later I got a shipment of hammers in and thought they looked rough and uneven. I decided they needed, at a bare minimum, some polishing 

 

I put those two thoughts together and spent this afternoon reshaping thumb part of a couple Blackhawk hammers. I used a bench grinder with a fine stone for the initial shaping then finished with the dremel. Always handling them bare handed making sure they were never too hot. 

 

Here’s a picture of the 2 shapes I came up with. The real trick will be trying to make another one that matches for pistol pairs! Please don’t be too critical as I’m still building a skill set here and they have not had their final polish yet. I’m absolutely certain I’m not the first person to do this! I just had to share!

years ago, I used a milling machine and made all my SBH hammers  look stock didn't need wider needed lower This just two of the nine I did.

Those look nice! I’m hoping to have all my government stuff done and be in actual business in the near future. A milling machine is certainly on the top end of the wish list.

Not a good picture but here is one of two Ruger old Armies that Three-Cut welded a Blackhawk hammer on. They are still going strong.
