In Saving Private Ryan, Tom Hanks is making sticky bombs. Stick some composition 3 explosive into a GI sock, coat it with axle grease so it would stick, run up beside a tank, light the fuse and slap the sock on the side of the tank, where it would stick and then explode causing damage to the tank.

Now if there actually was a plastic explosive called composition 3 - and it was not something that they invented for the movie - then logic says they could make a change in the formula, and this new plastic explosive would be composition 4 - c4.

Now whether they have "improved" it once again and have composition 5 or not I don't know.

From Wikipedia: Composition C-3 is an obsolete U.S. military plastic explosive consisting of 77% to 85% RDX and a liquid nitro-compound plasticizer. It was developed during World War II as an improvement over earlier plastic explosives, but it was later replaced by Composition C-4 because it became brittle in cold weather and degraded at high temperatures.

 

If I were guessing, C-5 would be C-4 that has been Naquida enhanced.

I LOVE the C8 Corvette! I waited thirty-five years for Chevy to build a mid-engine sports car!!  Yeah! It resembles a Ferrari, but so do a few others and it’s now one of the finest sports cars, especially for the money, in the world!!

 

As for the explosive, HMX is probably the hottest of the new generation. More thermally stable and much more powerful.

My Dad and I rebuilt Corvettes when I was younger and still living in Michigan.

I would have to go thru photo albums to find all the pictures; but my personal Corvettes...

C2:  1964 Convertible Blue - 327 manual transmission car. 

It rolled down a driveway and center punched a tree directly between the rear bumpers - so we got that one cheap.

 

C3: 1969 T-top Black - 427 390 hp automatic.   With the leg burning giant chrome side pipes (anyone who owned one probably still has a burn scar on their leg)

16 year old got it as a birthday present and wrecked it the SAME DAY.  (was not me)

His dad took it back and we bought it cheap - took out the front end and radiator; we put on an Eckler one piece front end with fixed (non pop up) headlights (which today would be strictly verboten - but back then was a popular modification).

 

C3: 1972 T-top Ontario Orange - 350 automatic.   This one was a near perfect show car that the owner just got tired of - when the opportunity arose to purchase it; we jumped.  My cousin in Michigan still owns this one.

 

C3:  1976 T-top White - 350 automatic.  This was a decent car that the owner had driven into a wire cable at parking lot speed - buggered up the rubber bumper and paint.  They couldn't find anyone to repair the bumper and repaint the flexible paint reasonably; so I bought it as my daily driver (fortunately - we already had bumpers and knew how to spray the paint).

 

C4:  1984 Targa-top Gold - 350 automatic.

Owner has spun it off road breaking aluminum transmission mounts, exhaust hardware and most everything else under the car - got this one cheap (good thing) as "we" were not able to weld aluminum back then and factory parts were prohibitively expensive - I built steel fixtures to hold things together.  Was quite possibly the biggest piece of garbage I have ever worked on.

 

C6:  2008 Convertible Black - 6.2 liter automatic.  By this time my dad had passed and I wanted to do something with the money he left me that he would have approved of.

Was my daily driver for three years until I sold it for "reasons".

 

I keep looking at C8's - either an E-Ray with 6.2 and electric awd or the Grand Sport (same car with a 6.7 liter engine)

I loved C4, would heat up our meals/coffee in the jungle and blow trees to form an LZ.  Just don't inhale the fumes when burning it
