WTB - Full length Winchester 1897 E Model Butt Stock

Howdy fellow cow pokes!

 

I want to buy a decent used full length Winchester 1897 E Model butt stock. It will go on a shotgun that is not pretty, so the stock does not have to be pretty, but does need to sound and free from cracks, etc. 

 

The previous owner filled the butt stock on this shot gun with melted lead (1lb, 5oz) which cracked it (I assume from the heat) in several places. It did not come off easily, or in one piece.

 

Please let me know what you have available and how much you want for it please. If you can provide the over all length and post pictures, that would be appreciated. 

 

I don't spend all day on the computer, as we are busy with life and being full time care takers for our moms. So please be patient, I will check for messages by the end of each night.

Sorry I’m so late getting back to you. The 2 that I have fit D models just fine but they do not fit an E model receiver well at all. There is a 3/16” ish gap between the receiver and the wrist of the stock and it looks like the tang is different also.

Still searching for a replacement stock.

 

The one on my gun had pieces of wood missing, and multiple cracks but things got worse when I had to split it apart to get 1.52 pounds of lead out of the stock!

My stock was on a 1949 model 97. when was your 97 made?

It appears that my 1897 was made in 1913.

I bought a Boyd replacement stock from Midway USA.  The wrist was a little thicker than an original stock’s but it fit just fine.

Still searching for a stock. 

 

I glued up the broken one and filled in the cracks and gaps. The cracks started opening back up after 8 rounds, so this experiment was not very successful. The epoxy wood filler worked well, but the Elmer’s wood glue was not strong enough.
