Yes, you read that right.  The Magnificent Seven is now the Magnificent Eight thanks to the addition of the North Carolina State Championship, which will kick off the Magnificent Eight for 2027 (in November 2026!).

The 2026 Magnificent 7 saw great participation with 72 people signing up.  We gave out more buckles than ever before and gave away some great door prizes generously donated by our sponsors: Bullets by Scarlett, Page Custom Knives, Outlaw Bullets, and Buffalo's Wild West and Diamond Jake Rewa.

Every year we're seeing people travel a long way to participate in our game and this year I was remiss at the awards ceremony for not mentioning a group who not only traveled across the country, they lost their RV on the road, AND they still managed to shoot, not one, not two, but all SEVEN matches.

Tam Bam, Happy Shootzmore and Hairy Trigger thank you so much for joining us and please consider coming back!

We're extremely grateful to SASS, and all seven state clubs who sponsored us and look forward to their sponsorship in 2027.

The rules are the same in 2027 the minimum number of matches is unchanged at 3.

My goal for 2027 year is to hit 100 participants.  If you participated in the past and want to join us again we're grateful.  If you haven't done the Magnificent 7 we hope you'll consider the Magnificent 8 this year.  The price is still $20 and it's still non-profit.  All entrance fees go towards Molly buckles and/or door prizes. The deadline to sign up will be April 1st 2027.

The calendar is:

NC State Championship

Uprising at Swearing Creek November 5-7 2026

SC State Championship

Rampage at Ridgeville April 8-10

FL State Championship

The Last Stand April 15-17 2027

Kentucky State Championship

Shootout in the Hills Date TBD

Alabama State Championship

Shootout at Cavern Cove Date TBD

Georgia State Championship

Stampede at South River  May 13-15 2027

Mississippi State Championship

Smokin Guns at Rabbit Ridge May 28-30 2027

Tennessee State Championship

The Regulators Reckoning June 3-5 2027

I encourage anyone who is interested to recruit a few more people and we'll honor whatever category you're interested in.

I'm in! (Just have to pick which 3 this year.)

Magnificent 8 lacks a ring to it. How about the Great Southern 8? Alternatively maybe The Hedley Lamarr Classic. Our motto is "Now go do that voodoo that you know so well!"?

Well, butter my biscuits and pass the powder flask—the Magnificent Seven has grown into the Magnificent Eight! With the North Carolina State Championship joining the trail, there's now eight chances to collect stories, smiles, and maybe a buckle or two.

If you've never tried Frontierman, now's the time. Bring those cap-and-ball six-shooters, make plenty of smoke, and remind everyone what real gunfire sounded like before smokeless powder spoiled the fun. Besides, every posse needs at least one Frontierman to keep the mosquitoes away!

So hitch up the wagon, load the powder, and join the ride. The smoke is thicker, the laughs are louder, and the Magnificent Eight is waiting for you!

T-SQUARE IS COMING, AND HELLS COMING WITH ME !  (sorry, I just couldn't resist).  LOL

Here is a little travel help from Chat GPT:

Here's the trail in chronological order, making a grand loop through the Southeast.

Date State Championship Location
Nov. 5–7, 2026 North Carolina State ChampionshipUprising at Swearing Creek Salisbury, NC
Apr. 8–10, 2027 South Carolina State ChampionshipRampage at Ridgeville Ridgeville, SC
Apr. 15–17, 2027 Florida State ChampionshipThe Last Stand Hernando, FL
Apr. 22–24, 2027 Kentucky State ChampionshipShootout in the Hills Cave City, KY
Apr. 29 – May 1, 2027 Alabama State ChampionshipShootout at Cavern Cove Woodville, AL
May 13–15, 2027 Georgia State ChampionshipStampede at South River Covington, GA
May 28–30, 2027 Mississippi State ChampionshipSmokin' Guns at Rabbit Ridge Ackerman, MS
June 1–3, 2027 Tennessee State ChampionshipThe Regulators' Reckoning Wartrace, TN

Approximate Driving Legs

  • Salisbury, NC → Ridgeville, SC: ~220 miles
  • Ridgeville, SC → Hernando, FL: ~360 miles
  • Hernando, FL → Cave City, KY: ~700 miles
  • Cave City, KY → Woodville, AL: ~220 miles
  • Woodville, AL → Covington, GA: ~220 miles
  • Covington, GA → Ackerman, MS: ~300 miles
  • Ackerman, MS → Wartrace, TN: ~250 miles

Total driving: approximately 2,270 miles across eight state championships.

This schedule is ideal for RV travelers, with a week between most matches and nearly two weeks before Georgia, giving plenty of time for sightseeing, visiting friends, or finding the next Walmart or campground.

By the time you reach Tennessee, you'll have crossed eight states, fired hundreds of rounds, made lifelong friends, and (if you're a Frontierman) left enough black powder smoke to be seen from space! Saddle up—the Magnificent Eight Trail is calling.

And here is the Official T-SQUARE Wagon Train Trail.

I hope you will consider joining me for a stop or two !

We have some time to coordinate (1) Range Camping or (2) RV Park camping.

My camping preference will be (1) on-range, (2) next to the range, or (3) at the closest RV park.

DM me and we can work out the details of SASS Camp.

Hey T-Square

The Mississippi State is in Byhalia MS NOT Ackerman MS. You need to rework your travel plans.

T-Square, your Chat Gpt information is wrong on the Tennessee State Match. The correct date for Tennessee State are June 3-5 2027.

Thanks

Randy:  I will update the actual dates, and eventually include departure and arrival times.  Looking forward to shooting WarTrace again!

The move from Ackerman to Byhalia shortens that leg by roughly 100 miles and places the match much closer to the Memphis area, which may open up a few additional sightseeing opportunities if you'd like to add one there. @Diamond Jake do you have room in your driveway !!  (joke)

Howdy T-Square

You know how on the bottom of Chatgpt it says that it makes mistakes? It sure does.

It has the Florida State match being held in Hernando. It's really Gainesville. Roughshod Raiders.

Also if you followed the map looking for Hernando, you'd still have a ways to go. Hernando is north of Tampa on the west coast, not in the middle of the state.

Just thought you should know.

PS Capt Bill: Congratulations on expanding your cool idea.

Maybe you could consider a new name. These are my submissions:

Egregarious Eight

Eccentric Eight

Elusive Eight

Edgy Eight

Lots of good suggestions.  I still Like  "The Magnificent Eight" "Cowboy Open" or something like that.

Just a reminder, that first date up there for North Carolina is 2026!!!  It's only a few months away.  It falls a little while after Land Run, so if you went to Land Run and did well, then North Carolina State is a great opportunity to continue your streak.  On the other hand, if you went to Land Run and aren't satisfied with how you did, this is your chance to try again at an awesome, well attended match.  Finally, if you didn't make it to Land Run you should probably treat yourself by going to North Carolina.

Basically all roads lead there so what are you waiting for??

@Waimea Thanks Waimea.  Yes, AI isnt as good as the Cowboys here !!  When I get some time, I will dig deeper into the actual route, with departure dates, travel days, and arrival dates.  Then I'll work on the site visits and places of interest.  Eventually I will export the wagon trail into RV LIFE, for RV-safe GPS and Camping locations along the way.  One night at a Cracker Barrel is okay, but we'll need a better campsite for those week(s) between some of the shoots.

Having visited Vicksburg this year, you need a minimum of 4 days there. I recommend that you visit the Depot Museum the day before doing the Battlefield tour The docent there had a good video you can watch as well as an excellent working knowledge that she paired with their diorama of the battlefield . Really puts the closeness of the fighting into a perspective that the Battlefield tour lacks.

The Old Courthouse Museum is a must see and will take most of the day.

We stayed at the Ameristar RV park in Vicksburg. Nice, quiet, inexpensive, no frills RV park. However, Cell reception was not very good and streaming was out of the question.

If you don't have one, get the America the Beautiful Senior Pass. The discounts you get at CoE RV parks makes it easily worth the money.

The Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville takes 2 days to really see.

Of course now that NC is included, I am so close to the range that I could walk to it, and only need 2 other matches to qualify, I used up all my hall passes this for the M7.

My wife has invited me to not be away a few weekends a year for matches, as it would afford me many opportunities for consternation and arguments. 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

Captain BB,

You could just call it “The Magnificent 7+. “

That way if you add any other matches in the future it would still be the same name.

Unfortunately, that would be impossible. She has joint custody of her kids with her ex-husband and exchange day is Friday.
