Do you wear your cap backwards?

I wear sunglasses to "shade" my eyes.

 

if I am wearing a baseball cap it is because I am working outside - on a car, setting steel, etc. - meaning I am probably looking down.

Wearing the brim rearwards provides sun protection to the back of my neck.

 

There is NOTHING fashionable or stylish about wearing baseball caps - so I wear it it in the most utilitarian manner for my purposes.

I wear my baseball cap backwards when I’m welding and when I’m on stage sharing a microphone with someone.

 

One time when we were performing in a very small club, I was sharing a microphone with my guitar player. We both leaned in to harmonize on a line in a song and the bill of my cap stuck right in his eye. From now on if I knew I was going to be performing that way, I turn the cap around whenever we hit a song where there was a duet.

 

EDIT: Come to think of it, I also turn my cap around when I am shooting a scoped rifle and sometimes when I’m under a car on a lift.  I’ve seen a bunch of people bang their head because the bill of the cap blocked their view of the rack or a low hanging part of the car.

I wear it backwards in exactly one moment - when casting bullets. I wear a full face shield while casting, which has kept many a lead splatter off my face, and I have to have the cap backwards for that, so it protects the back of my neck from the sun, because I cast outside under a short porch. 

Other than that, I wear the same hat forwards all the time.

I think wearing it backward as a fashion statement is stupid.  here are viable reasons to wear one backward, as described above.  

 

I heard a Tongan high school football player and wrestler who was being hassled by three Mexican kids that if they didn't back off he'd twist their heads around until their hats pointed in the right direction.  I put that in my "mental quiver" for future use, but in about 50years I've never has a chance to use it.

 

BTW, those three kids walked away without further comment.  I didn't think they were all that smart...but I was wrong.

He wasn't very tall, maybe six feet even, but weighed in at about two fifty-five and had NO fat on him.  

 

I watched him pick up Chevy engine block in auto shop class and another student rolled an engine stand under it while two other guys bolted it into place.

I wear my cap backwards, while in the  house doing work.  The only reason I put a cap on, as was said above, is for utilitarian reasons.  I need to keep my hair out of my eyes.  With the hat on correctly, I have difficulty seeing things while I'm working with my machines, presses, cutters etc.  If I have to leave the house for some reason, I turn it around and wear it properly.

Literally the only time I ever wore a cap backwards was when I was a catcher in Little League and pony League and much later on a softball team. Thats just MHO

I rarely wear a baseball type cap but when I do, I wear it brim forward.

I wear an old beat-up baseball type cap for match set-up days at the range. Turn it backwards when running our ancient JD Gator back and forth on the range road at speed (such as it is) with the windscreen folded down...Otherwise, no ball caps.

I wear a ball cap most of the time when I’m out and about. A cowboy hat has too high of a crown to wear in any of my vehicles and the headrests interfere with the brims!

 

My ball caps are fitted, none of that plastic band or straps for adjustment and they’re made of high quality twill or leather.

 

The bills of my caps are curled to block glare from the sides and I wear them low on my forehead , usually with aviator style sunglasses in the daytime, because I don’t want to be bothered with bright sunlight.
 

The cap and glasses are a tool for driving when I’m on the road. It’s used to protect my neck when I’m welding or working overhead or in close proximity to grinders or machinery.

 

I wear the ball cap at most of my band gigs, partly to shade my eyes from stage and spot lights and because I don’t think people care to be blinded by the glare off of my mostly bald head! As I said previously, if I’m sharing a microphone, I’ll turn the cap around. On bigger stages, we use individual mics for each vocalist.  On some bigger stages, I’ll wear a cowboy hat.

I did that for my youngest grandson and he’d turn it back around like it was supposed to be!
