We subscribe to a company that delivers a bag of coffee every three weeks.  That is how long it takes us to go through the bag.  Well, the coffee was supposed to be delivered Saturday.  I checked periodically during the day.  Not at the front door.  We decided they were likely running late, or left it at the neighbors house and we would get it Sunday.  I received an email from the coffee company Sunday morning telling me the coffee had been delivered.  I checked the front door again.  No coffee.  I decided to walk all the way around the front of the house, just in case.  Well, I found it.  The delivery company had dropped it in front of Uno's truck in the driveway.  Unfortunately, our resident fat raccoon got to it first.

Well crud.  There goes our coffee for the weekend.  I sent the above picture to the coffee company and advised them to have a conversation with their delivery company to prevent this kind of thing in the future.  I closed it by saying that somewhere in ,my neighborhood was an over-caffeinated raccoon terrorizing folks.

I received an email today thanking me for the note with the picture.  They appreciated my sense of humor in all this and are sending me a replacement bag of coffee.  They will have a conversation with the delivery company.  They too feared what an over caffeinated raccoon could do.  I replied and thanked them for their attention and sent along a picture of what the raccoon likely looks like.

I appreciate that.  There was nothing I could do about the bag of coffee so I set it aside and moved on.

I always try to approach negative or bad things with a little bit of humor to break the ice and soften the situation.  If things go south, then I start turning up the fierce.  The coffee company was very nice about it so it's all good.

I’m sometimes accused of gallows humor!  I guess they’re right sometimes! I’ve told this story many times. It just seems to make good sense to me to try to keep at least a slightly positive perspective when things don’t go well.

One of my racing partners, thirty some years ago, was competing in a large and potentially lucrative drag racing event.

As he left the starting line on what could have been a “money pass” the car stood straight up in the air and the engine exploded, sending parts several hundred feet down the track. The car slammed down and he steered it to the side of the track.

The crew, myself included, ran to the car and as he climbed out, the spectators all politely applauded. We started pushing the car back off the track and my brother ran down track and retrieved a small section of crankshaft with the remains of two rods attached.

Wayne, the driver, looked at the pieces and laughed, shook his head, and grinned as he leaned into pushing the car. A lady in the stands, close to the track, called out, “Look at that guy! He just blew a $20,000.00 motor and he’s laughing about it!!”

Wayne paused and looked toward the stands, spotting the lady, and replied with his crooked grin even larger, “Lady, I might as well laugh! It don’t do a damned bit of good to cry about it!”

The crowd erupted in applause and we pushed the car off the track to cheers and laughter!

I figure if it isn’t a tragedy of some sort, laughter probably IS the best medicine!!

Must have been in another package too as there is no "ship to" address on the package.

In the delivery companies defense (and that dont happen often) Is it possible said Trash Panda took it from your door and carried it to in front of the truck?

Nope.  The camera would have let us know the package was there.

The house is set back off the road.  You have about 250 foot hike off the road up the driveway to get to the house.  The garage is the first area you get to.  You then have to walk half way around the front of the house to get to the front door.  Lots of delivery drivers are too lazy to do that so they leave packages at the garage door.  Sometimes they will cut across the grass.  We're OK with that.  One FedEx driver was so lazy, he got about 2 truck lengths up the driveway, opened the door and threw the box out, backed out and left.  We didn't find it until the next day.  Unfortunately, it was a 20 pound bag of cat food in a regular cardboard box.  We found the box under some trees next to the driveway with the cat food almost completely gone.  The trash pandas ate well that night.

No.  I obliterated my name and address for security reasons.

A long time ago, we were at a horse show. I took my mare over a little 2 foot trail jump. It was a very wet show grounds, her front foot stuck in another track and did a somersault with me. Mom hollered, was Chris all right. My wonderful big brother said the horse is fine.
