Alpo Posted July 18 Posted July 18 It is my understanding that to be married in the Catholic Church, you have to agree that any children as the result of this wedding will be raised Catholic. My question is what if you have children prior to getting married? Okay, television show. Do whatever the hell they want to because it's a television show. Got it. Bones. Booth is a Catholic. Bones and Booth make the beast with two backs, the result of which is Christine. They move in together for a couple of years. Then they finally get married. They are going to get married in the church. Bones doesn't believe and she knows that it would mean a lot to Booth so she is going to let that happen. And for some reason that I've forgotten that did not happen. In the episode that I have just started watching it begins with an argument --- Look, all I'm saying is that Church could be good for Christine. That's what caused my wonder. If they had been married in the church - which they weren't - and Christine came along afterwards - which she didn't - they would not be having this argument because Bones would have already agreed that Christine would be raised in the church. But since Christine happened before the wedding did, would that requirement apply? 1 Quote

You go to confession and the priest grants you absolution from the sins. The church would expect you to abide by the rules of course but it has nothing to do with donations! Quote

You have a character on a TV show, who in almost every way lives in a way that is contrary to their stated faith, and then it suddenly becomes important for some reason. If Bones cared about being a good Catholic, he would not have been sleeping with Christine before they got married. There is an episode of Big Bang theory where Bernadette makes a big deal about how she can't lie because she went to Catholic school. And yet, she's sleeping with Howard out of wedlock. There's the episode of Friends where Ross is all paranoid about his kid celebrating Hanukkah because he's Jewish, when the rest of the time he is portrayed as an atheist. There are many other examples across many TV shows and probably many movies. I find it to be very bad writing. Quote

Irish Pat Posted July 19 Posted July 19 what is worse is people that claim to be good catholics and are in favor of abortion as a form of birth control. I was adopted by wonderful parents. I am glad planned parenthood wasn’t around in 1951 2 Quote

It doesn’t normally happen like that to the best of my knowledge.Theres no set fees for getting married even after an annulment. They accept donations though. My ex got remarried and our marriage was annulled by the priest in her new parish. She got married there and it did not cost them anything but her and her new husband made a donation to the church which was not a lot. Edited July 19 by Rye Miles #13621 Quote

Rye Miles #13621 Posted July 19 Posted July 19 . In many Catholic dioceses, there may be a fee associated with the annulment process, but a person’s ability to pay should never prevent them from seeking an annulment. Here’s how it generally works: Many dioceses charge no fee at all. Over the past several years, numerous dioceses have eliminated fees entirely. Some dioceses ask for a modest administrative fee to help cover the costs of processing the case. If someone cannot afford the fee, it is typically reduced or waived. Church law and practice are clear that justice should not depend on a person’s financial situation. Quote
