DST in Winter has Sunrise at 8AM 🤔

Standard Time would be a much better choice.

Absolutely......and why is this a government issue......ANY government...... any way.   Lock it in at Standard Time and then back out of this foolish......DLS system permanently.

 

If a single business wants to open an hour earlier or later they can simply tape a sign on their front door (something that too few businesses do anyway.) stating the new hours.

Early sunset is easier to deal with.

One of the reasons I moved to AZ was that we do not do this mess.

I once got screwed on daylight savings time.

I was working a overnight, which started at 11pm. I thought the relief crew was coming.

They were not. 

I looked at the clock at it was 6 am. Not 7am.

I asked HR to give me the extra hour. 

They would not.

The problem is there simply isn’t enough hours of daylight in winter.  We get about 9 hrs on the shortest day.  Sunrise is 7:40 ish and sunset is 4:40 ish on standard time.  If they go dst as standard it will be 8:40 for a sunrise and 5:40 for sunset.  go further west and it will be after 9am for a sunrise. 
 

For me it’s much harder to deal with an 8:40 sunrise than a 4:30 sunset.  I would prefer they leave it alone or stay on standard time.  also it’s a single hour time change.  That’s nothing.  Used to travel a lot and routinely dealt with 14 hr time changes.

who cares, toughen them up. I mean didn’t folks used to walk to school uphill both ways in the snow?

I was a kid in the eighties; we caught the bus at 6:45am; guess what, it was dark out. I lived.

 

All that said, I prefer DST over Standard, but the main thing I want is to STOP changing it.

Who wants to get up for work in the morning and still need headlights?

Suggest you start a poll and see what the majority on this forum would say.

Part of the problem is related to the fact that, perhaps, the time zones are too "wide."   I live in New England, on the eastern edge of the Eastern Timezone.   In the Winter, it is dark when I go home at 4:30.   In Detroit on the western edge of Eastern Time, the in the summer, the sun doesn't come up till well after 7.   So, if you are on the edges of the zone you live in, you are gonna get extreme AMs or PMs depending on the time of the year.

If you live in the middle of the zone, the shifting of sunrise and sunset is not as dramatic.

Personally, here in New England, most everyone would prefer to leave the clock on the summer schedule year round.   My relatives in Detroit tell me that most people in that area prefer the Winter schedule.  I don't know anyone in between, but I have a feeling that they are either split pretty even on the question, or don't care much one way or the other.

I vote for standard time all year. That said, just put it one way or the other and I'll get used to it.

I think I live in the middle of what you’re saying. I live in the suburbs of Cleveland Ohio. We’re 3 hours southeast  of Detroit. I really could care less, it’s only an hour either way that’s being changed. Big deal! I just want the CHANGING to end.
