Creeker, SASS #43022 Posted July 13 Posted July 13 Painted Lady and I have not been shooting CAS for a while. Started out; we miss a few weekends for one reason or another. Then something else would come up. Then It's too hot - it's too cold. Then we became active with a 3wheel riding group. Next thing you know - those missed weekends stretch into nearly a year away from cowboy. Decided to fix that this weekend and took a ride down to Lucerne California and the RR Bar Regulators. We had a great time catching up with everyone. (love ya Calamity Annie and John Ringo). And we had a blast; banging and clanging - albeit a little slower and a lot more fumble fingered than I like to admit. But Painted Lady made it thru with only 3 misses for the day and amazingly - I somehow shot clean. Thank you to everybody at the RR Bar for a fun shoot and welcoming us back like we had never even left. 8 2 Quote

Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted July 14 Posted July 14 (edited) If that picture is of Painted Lady, she reminds me an awful lot of my Daughter-In-law, one of the most fantastic women I've ever known, and as good a Daughter-In-Law as a man could ever ask for. Now, the guy in the same picture....well.........who cares? Edited July 14 by Forty Rod SASS 3935 1 Quote

Calamity Kris Posted July 14 Posted July 14 The RR Bar was our club as well. The last time we shot SASS was at that club just before moving to Missouri, then Florida. That was over 10 years ago. I miss it terribly. I miss the people at that club more. Glad to hear they are still going. 1 Quote
Creeker, SASS #43022 Posted July 15 Author Posted July 15 The RR Bar is where one of my favorite cowboy stories comes from. This is a few years ago; Painted Lady and I had, like we did this weekend, driven down on Saturday - got a hotel room and came out to RR Bar to shoot on Sunday. But Sunday morning - we realized, I had neglected to pack any cowboy clothes for myself. I had my boots and my hat. A quick run to WalMart for a pair of black jeans, a Henley shirt and then off to the range - but when we arrived at the range - we had underestimated the time to shop and get to the range and we were "slightly" late. So we are hustling around like crazy to get our gear together, holsters and belts, etc. Painted Lady offers to finish loading the cart up if I run over to the stages and get us signed up. I do so - and the very nice lady signs us up - takes payment and assesses my brand new cowboy shirt, brand new jeans and my apologies for being late and sweetly asks, "Are you a new shooter?" I glance around to see if I know anyone on our posse... "Why yes, I am a new shooter" By this time, Painted Lady has arrived on the stage with our gear and I grab my leather to finish getting dressed. The lady asks Painted Lady, "Are you new as well?" (Now at this point, Painted Lady was still a new shooter - so she thinks nothing out of the ordinary about the question). She responds, "Yes, I've only shot a few matches" "Well, you're on a good posse, we will make sure you're safe and that you have fun" My opportunity to load comes up and one of the posse members tells me to finish up, leave my guns and come up to watch the current shooter. "This guy is really good - watch him" Shoots a solid stage in about 19 seconds. I respond appropriately and go back to the loading table. RR Bar on some stages, moved the "on deck" shooter inside the facade while the shooter ahead shoots - this was one of these stages. So I am inside the "saloon" and the same posse member comes over and tells me to watch this shooter as well. "He's even better than the other one" A good stage follows somewhere in the 17 range. I get called to the line to stage my guns and my new friend says, "Just be smooth and concentrate on the stage; speed will come" BEEP: About 14 seconds later - I'm done. I turn to see a number of open mouths and questioning faces. "You're a new shooter?" About that time, John Ringo walks into the saloon from the other posse and says, "Creeker, I thought that was you" "John, you know him? He's a new shooter" "New shooter, Creeker? No, he's President and Match Director for Eldorado in Las Vegas - he has been shooting cowboy for a while" I had just gotten lucky - I knew almost everyone on the other posse and yet knew no one on this posse - so my little ruse worked. I did apologize and ran the timer extensively the rest of the day to make up. That event has always amused me. 4 Quote

Hhhmmmmmm! Same question about my son and his wife. It goes for me, too. The luckiest day of my life was when I met her. Hey, a lot of our folks have been blessed the same way. How about we get some input from more of you? Quote

You know; the flip side is possible as well - maybe SHE did something so atrocious that her punishment is being stuck with me? No - not possible. She is by far the sweetest, kindest person I have ever met. I do not deserve her. I think God put her into my life to give me a reason; to encourage me that I should try everyday to do better. 1 Quote

Four in a row and I am still sort of stunned every time I think of them. Quote
