John Kloehr Posted July 10 Posted July 10 (edited) I remember waiting for clearance to go back in. Figure on eating out for a couple days. The dumpster notice for spoiled food suggests power was cut in support of fighting the fire. I suggest nitrile gloves, baking soda, vinegar, rolls of paper towels, and compactor bags (thicker than normal garbage bags). Don't open the fridge until power has been back on long enough to freeze the freezer. Open all nearby windows before opening the fridge (hopefully unnecessary but dang if it is). Bag and dispose of everything in the freezer. Then bag everything in the fridge and put those bags in the freezer. Toss them when they freeze. This keeps your car from getting the funk. If you have a truck, it s quicker; just find some cardboard to soak any moisture and toss it too. Now turn off the fridge/freezer and wipe all inside surfaces down with vinegar. Use plenty. Power the unit back up. Open the boxes of baking soda. two in fridge, two in freezer. Sniff test in 24 hours, toss the baking soda within 3 days. You may be able to go to the store and start restocking. Reports from wind and the limited amount of fuel may mean you have little or no smoke damage, at least inside. Especially if power was cut so AC was not running. Launder everything anyway. If there is noticeable smoke smell, ask about ozone. Do not run ozone without asking! It does great things, can also hurt your lungs if not done right. Good luck taking your place back and hopefully you have no need of any of this post. Edited July 10 by John Kloehr 4 Quote

Hopefully this will help firefighters. There was not a wiff of smoke. Moab was nearly deserted. Fires scared off tourists. Update: I am still getting emergency notifications for San Juan County, Utah regarding fire evacuations. There is much monsoonal moisture in the air. All it would take is a few big thunderstorms to dump rain on the right locations and firefighters work would be much easier. Pray that it is so. watab kid Posted July 16 Posted July 16 well , you dodged the bullet but apparently the cancer has metastasized - we currently have over a dozen fires raging in the boundry waters cannoe area - they have cancelled all passes and are in process of evacuating everyone thats in there , its remote so little chance it will get to occupied areas soon - but it could , they wont try to put it out , the NFS said they will hope for snow to snuff it out - that might be oct-nov but could be sept , the last three years we had smoke from the fires out west , then from the canadian fires , but it was never as thick as it was today - ;like a heavy fog with smell , blotted out the sun to cool us from 90s into the 80s in about an hour , the north breeze kept it coming in all day , anyone with breathing issues better stay home inside - my eyes were irritated and i was sneezing this afternoon 1 Quote
