I am going out on a limb and say it's not supposed to do that. It looks like a Dillon, so I think you get it fixed for free.

One of the two ram arms on my 550B broke in half as I was making ammo for a big match. Dillon overnighted one to me for free under warranty. That was 25 years ago though. I'll wager that they'll replace it, under warranty, for free but you'll probably have to pay shipping.

Never had that happen. Though 3 yrs ago I did break one of the side link arms on a Dillon SDB. I called CS,  and they sent a replacement right away.

See Billy Boots post... SD is no weak sister.  The part IS cast aluminum, and thru many years of hard service can fatigue and develop stress cracks.  If Dave is like me and has his reloading setup in an non temp controlled space, cycles of heat and cold can also play a part.  Appears to have finally had all it could take of Dave's exuberance!  I have no doubt Dillon will stand behind their No BS Warranty.  I flat simply wore out the joints in my old 550B and Dillon sent me a new 550C.  A phone call and instructions on what to include when I sent the old in... less than 10 days later, the new one was in my shop.

Press has was well used when I bought it 12 years ago and I've loaded well over 150K rounds on it since then. 

 

At the time I was loading 45 ACP. So far I had loaded up about 2300. It's range brass so I have been getting the occasional abrupt stop due to brass with small primer pockets. Like Griff said my reloading room is only temperature controlled when I'm actively reloading.  The part is cast aluminum. There was a longitudinal brace cast into the handle right at the failure point and I suspect this caused a stress point that led to metal fatigue.

 

I'll call Dillon and get one on the way. The part will be free but I'll have to pay the shipping.

I just got a dozen misc parts for my SDB and no charge or shipping. Either way a small price to pay for the warranty service. My SDB has cruising right along for over 30 years. Sometimes when the fail safe rod is disconnected the handle just falls and that probably causes some stress on the cast aluminum as well.

I have broken 2 of them on Square Deals in the past. Dillon suggested that I get a heavy duty work bench to mount them on.

That I do have.  Heavy bench and it is secured to the wall. The bench has zero movement.
