Gun cleaning kit

I’m looking for recommendations on a universal gun cleaning kit for my SASS guns. The one I have now has the wire brushes for different calibers however they are wearing out as it’s an inexpensive one. 
 

Other than an ultra sonic cleaner what do you all recommend?

I wouldn't buy a Universal cleaning kit.  I would buy a nylon cleaning rod of the minimum required length for the rifle and shotgun, a box of brushes in the necessary caliber and a quart bottle of Hoppe's #9.  A big bag of cotton 3" patches and maybe some gun oil.  You are set.

KIT.  UNIVERSAL KIT.  Oxymoron.  There is no such animal.  You need either a Brass or Aluminum Rod about two inches longer than your pistol barrels and some quality brass brushes for the caliber.  Make your patches from old T Shirts.  Now you need a Cleaning rod for your shotgun, appropriate to your barre length and some quality brass brushes.  Make your patches from Heavy Duty Blue Paper Towels from Lowes.  Cut the Paper towels into quarters.  Now you need a cleaning rod for your rifle, appropriate to your barrel length and some quality brass brushes for caliber.  Make you patches from old T Shirts.

 

If you're shooting That heathen fad smokeless stuff, get a can of CLP cleaner and some Mobil 1 motor oil.  If you're shooting Black Powder or APP, just mix up some PAM (HYDROGEN PEROXIDE - DENATURED ALCOHOL - MURPHY SOAP) and some Mobil 1 motor oil.

 

You can get real nice brass brushes from Brownells.  Make patches from old T Shirts (mentioned that above) and for shotgun, Wrap the Brass Brush with the Blue Paper Towels.  Lubricate with Mobil 1 then wipe down with an oily rag (Mobil 1).

I'm probably on my 4th "universal" kit. At some point, the case from one of them became THE kit with parts from many others.

 

At this point, I have this clamshell:

 

 

 

This has cleaning rods, jags, a brush for every caliber I have, allen wrenches for accessories on various guns, sight adjustment tools for the same. And a couple other similar items. Some of these are in separate bags or zip-up pouches in the left net pocket. Most did not come with that particular kit.

 

This kit is in this bag:

 

 

It has patches, gloves, gun mat, paper towels, lubes, and cleaners/solvents, and another tool kit with various screwdriver (and torx, etc.) tips. Plus any misc. larger wrenches I might need for muzzle devices and such. A field kit. There is no tool or item in it I might not need. Also, being old and having had cataract surgery, a pair of reading glasses.

 

This entire kit is separate from my range bag with eyes, ears, ammo, 1st aid, etc. I tried to find a universal kit. best thing was to just build my own over time. A bunch of stuff got given away a couple years ago when I finally laid it all out and made some choices and eliminated duplicates. The contents are certainly important, but the packaging is worth some attention. I really like the clamshell.

yes , ive sorta made mine up from a number of things ive accumulated over the decades , i also recommend some balistol

Get a box of rubber/latex gloves from Harbor Freight, Costco, Amazon, etc. One piece cleaning rod (non-steel) suitable for shotgun and rifle and shorter rod for revolvers. Get brass and nylon brushes and brass jags for your calibers. I like the tornado brushes for shotgun. Nylon, brass and stainless toothbrush style brushes are handy. Solvent and oil of your choice. Retail patches for those who don't wear t shirts.

PS- Most miracle products are advertising hype. Most "kits" have jointed rods and pieces you won't use.
