Fast 2 / drop 2 carrier and follower for an 1887…

For those of us that don’t want to lose the regular use of an 1887/magazine tube use, where are guys getting the follower and carrier/guide some of the factory options come with?  Thank you.

To answer your question, a manufacturer would be helpful. As far as I know, Chiappa is the only company that offers the "Drop 2" mod.

The only factory "Drop two" option for an 1887 is a Chiappa. Any spare parts would have to be sourced through them.

 

Personally I'd buy another 87. The new Cimarron 87s will work just fine right out of the box.

 

Older IAC and Norinco 87s were hit or miss right out of the box.

The Newer Cimarron 87 works straight out of the box also .

But No drop two from the factory.

You would have to send it to Lassiter.

Chiappa is the only one that I know of with a factory drop 2. My opinion it ran worst than a stock one. I would avoid it unless it's all you can find. At which point send it to Lassiter. 

Cimarron's are going to be you best opinion to run outta the box and not lose the tube. You're probably not going to be as fast as a Lassiter or Coyote Cap modified one.

Not that I am an expert. But I have found that if you pick up the 1887 with you right hand put the barrel on the table for support and hold the lever back with a fair amount of force you can load two (with the left hand) much like the modification. This works with my 28inch Cimarron 1887. Although I have also found if you have too much of an angle to the shotgun (I put the butt under my arm for stability) the first shell will at times slide into the chamber and cause problems.

I have two Chiappa 87's with Lassiter's drop 2 conversions.  Of course, they work well, but cannot be stoked. 

 

I also have a Chiappa 87 that I purchased as their "Fast Load" model, sku 930.004.  For that gun I also purchased a "standard load" right cartridge guide (790.207) and carrier (770.404).  Normally, I use this gun with the standard right cartridge guide for wild bunch since in this configuration it can be stoked.  However, it can serve as a backup to my cowboy 87 by simply replacing the right cartridge guide with the fast load version.  The gun  runs fine in either configuration, but it did require the usual action work (funneling the chamber mouth, polishing mag follower, spring lightning, etc.)

 

My 4th 87 is a Cimarron version and with action work (but no drop 2) it runs well, but is strictly reserved for stoked wild bunch.

 

I've not actually tried it, but I would expect I could replace the modified right cartridge guide in my Lassiter 87's with the factory standard load guide and have them run well stoked.
