Alpo Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Wondered that for years. All my life, I bit my fingernails. Three, maybe 4 years ago I finally quit and I have fingernails. And I don't understand how people do anything. Example - I push the button on the microwave with the end of my finger. Have done that ever since I had a microwave. Can't do that now. Fingernail will not let the end of my finger touch it. I have to use the pad instead of the tip. I'm sure everybody uses the pad but I'm having to learn, in my late 60s, that something I've done for the past 60 years no longer works. Because of a fingernail. But on the subject of your question, why does anyone think that is attractive? And speaking of attractive fingernails - I have seen, within the past few years, women wearing multiple colors of nail polish. One finger will be blue and the next one will be yellow and then there'll be a red one and then there'll be a green one and... What the heck? 2 Quote

At the most, although I've seen some about 3/4" glue on nails that looked good with what the lady was wearing. I've never been a nail biter, other than trying to smooth out a chip that will snag on things. I try to maintain about 1/16" to 1/8" nails. Can be useful. About a year ago I noticed the nails on one of the receptionists in the doctors office. About 3/4" and what I thought was a very well done gloss black to sang de boeuf ombre. Quite lovely. I commented on how nice it looked. It wasn't nail polish. It was a temperature dependant color shift in glue on nails. Which got us talking for a couple of minutes about technology. Quote

I think that SOME women think that the long nails is a symbol of them being "high class", proving that they don't perform manual labor. I'll bet the LEOs among us know exactly who I'm referring to. I don't care for garish polish either. Kind of like tattoos, it make an otherwise attractive woman less so. And as for toes, NO!!! I have a deep seated dislike for the sight of the human foot at all. Real or acrylic, hand painted or decals, some of the work (art) they do is pretty amazing. And, like anything else that requires skill, once the word gets out that you're good you can set your price. IOW... good money. Many, many moons ago I did some work in the quality control dept of a cigarette manufacturer. The output from the machines that inspected the packs of cigarettes was a paper tape. Lots of numbers. The numbers on the tapes were input into the quality analysis software (that I wrote). The data entry girl had acrylic nails about half as long as those in the OP. She typed with the end of her nails, not her fingertips. About every six months the keys on the 10-key pad on her keyboard had to be replaced because she would wear through them... in the shape of a crescent. 2 Quote

Pat Riot Posted June 28 Posted June 28 I have had women that worked for me show up with long nails like that and tell me they can’t do anything that might damage their nails. 🤔 These women were train cleaners. They cleaned the trains every night after service hours. I assigned them mopping duties. They had mopping duty every night until “TA-DAaaa!” Their nails were short again. I had a female electro-mechanic pull that crap. I assigned here the rebuilding of a drum switch on an accident train. The drum switch is like a big junction box with 3 huge rotary switches that have about 30 layers each. All the train’s train lines signals go thought the drum switches when the trains are coupled. There are like 400 connections that need to be made in this box then they have to be triple checked for continuity then tested live. It was a shame to see that in 2 days she pretty much destroyed those nails. Such a shame. 2 3 Quote
